This performance is a bit too spare and lean for my tastes even though Cox does do a commendable job. Yes Hopkins was a little theatrical but my God he was memorable and terrifying.

I hope no one needs an MRI this year. The world's largest producer of liquified helium is in Qatar and is shut off. We just got a notice that our supply for the year will be at least cut in half. No one could have predicted this (unless they thought about it).

@Tomas_Zubiri I don't think we disagree here, then. If you take "improvement" to mean "more profitable", then that includes all sorts of things, like taking advantage of people's addictions, etc. I'm using "improvement" to mean "make better".

@Tomas_Zubiri I certainly never make that assumption. We are an industry where trillion-dollar companies pay other trillion-dollar companies to set the default search provider, etc. It does not resemble a perfect market in any way in my experience!

In other words, if you are assuming that AI will only be adopted in some area if it demonstrably produces better results than doing the work by hand, that is almost certainly an incorrect assumption, at least for software (but probably elsewhere, too).

I've said this a few times now, but I'll keep saying it: it's also a mistake to assume that the industry in general cares whether something is a clear improvement. We have a long history of adopting new practices that are actively worse in many ways to prior practices.

The Cadets from Old Dominion University who stopped an active shooter, received 8 Meritorious Service Medals. Two of them received Purple Hearts…from the Sergeant Major of the Army and the Secretary of the Army. Absolutely amazing and well deserved.

I have a friend who has a high schooler who is getting rejected from a bunch of colleges. Apparently, it's much harder to get in to a good college now than before. But college shouldn't be make or break for what you want to do in life. I hope more kids can just realize that gatekeepers can't stop you if you just persist in building something that people want.
