In March 1949 soviets deported around 90, 000 people from #Lithuania, #Latvia& #Estonia. Over decade, Lithuania faced 35 mass deportations - over 132,000 citizens were sent to uninhabitable regions of Russia, mostly women& children, many men suffered killings due to their resistance. Fewer than half returned. The crimes of communism haven’t had their "Nuremberg" yet. Unaddressed crimes risk enabling totalitarian regimes& crimes against humanity to reemerge. Russia's aggression in #Ukraine today is a prove of that.

@Mrgunsngear Soviet Union built temporary concrete shelter, it was failing. This dome was built in 2016 and moved to cover the old one. Quite high at 108 metres, might've been hit accidentaly.

*reportedly* a Russian drone (likely Iranian made) hit the containment dome at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in Ukraine. The Russians were the ones who created the dome so they had to know it wouldn't actually do anything to it which leads me to assume the attack was just to send a political message but who knows... #drone #Chernobyl #ukraine #war #russia

BREAKING: @SecDef walks back his statement yesterday that a negotiated settlement is not likely to end with Ukraine in @NATO: "These negotiations are led by @realDonaldTrump. Everything is on the table. In his conversations with Vladimir Putin and Zelensky, what he decides to allow or not allow, is at the purview of the leader of the free world--President Trump. So I'm not going to stand at this podium and declare what President Trump will do or won't do, what will be in or what will be out, what concessions will be made or what concessions are not made."

@baltfootballpod @angelorumori Ekranas won 5 titles in a row 2008-2012. Then was dissolved in 2015, but in 2020 name and rights we bought by local club. It changed name to Ekranas and now competes in 2nd tier. Not counting them - 4 out of 8 LT champions are gone.

@angelorumori But with the exception of Infonet, last of those was 20 years ago. In Lithuania it’s been 22 years since Ekranas won A Lyga and then was dissolved 3 years later. Latvia buries a title winning club twice a decade, it seems.

6 of 9 post-restoration of independence Virslīga Champion clubs no longer exist either at all or in practice… The top is not only a lonely place but also littered with tombstones it would seem. At least things are better in Estonia and Lithuania…

@jaccocharite Well, russia tried to use energy as leverage. The result is we do not need anything from them: no gas, no oil, no electricity, nothing. Just think about it. And cry more - vatnik tears actually energize us. 😀

🇱🇹🇪🇪 EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas: “Tomorrow, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will be disconnected from the Russian energy grid forever. Russia can no longer use energy as a tool of blackmail.” Which it never has, not one time did Russia use energy as leverage. If it had, the Baltics wouldn't be so loud mouthed 😉

@UnPersonFiles @deputinifier Most of the things have already happened. Since 2022 Baltics do not buy russian electricity. Lines to Sweden, Poland and Finland (and price market) are working for years already. Local generation is constantly increasing. Lately about 75% is generated locally in Lithuania.

Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will permanently disconnect from Russia’s power grid tomorrow. Russia can no longer use energy as a tool of blackmail. This is a victory for freedom and European unity.

@allig8or_dundee @kajakallas If you mean stop buying russian electricity - Baltics don't do that since 2022. Sinchronisation took 17 years from the point of idea in 2007. Some projects needed to be completed to be technically able to do that. Most are finished: litgrid.eu/index.php/sync…

@andrejurek @kajakallas As for Lithuania - we had a price spike in 2022 (see the graphic). A lot of people and businesses here installed solar panels. Wind generation capability increased from 1300 to 1850 MW just throughout last year, more projects to come. While Lithuania comsumes in 900-2000MW range.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t know that. In our region, electricity prices go up and up every year, and companies are struggling because of such high costs. In our country, we produce enough electricity, but because we are part of the EU market, where demand is much higher than supply, the cost of energy naturally goes up. EU politics does nothing, but they bark really loud about the commitment to reduce CO2 emissions.

@andrejurek @kajakallas Gas prices, draught, Germany foolishly shutting down their nuclear plants didn't help you. If I remember correctly, Italy generates most of it's electricity from gas. And Slovenia is right next to most industrialised northern part of it.

@andrejurek @kajakallas Baltic countries do not buy russian or Belarussian electricity for years now. So prices will not change. They will just disconnect, dismantle lines and regulate frequency themselves while synchronizing with continental network.

@kajakallas I wonder what will happen with energy prices in these countries. I bet the private sector, especially factories, won’t be happy. Making people poor and destroying the European economy is not a victory for freedom. This just transfers blackmail powers from Russia to you.

No, but we should choose a better approach. Winston Churchill understood this well. Russia is an old empire and wants to be recognized. We should use this to our advantage. It’s like in sales and building relationships, if you make the other party feel important, you’ll get everything you want and you won’t have to bend over and will avoid conflicts.

@willthiel The object you circled in red is 750/500 kV electrical substation Opytnaya. Nothing to do with gas. Gas line was hit further away from the power plant. The northwest corner of plant building was hit too.

Based on the nature and colour of this fire, I reckon they have hit the gas processing and storage area 🔴 in the picture below. Good choice as it is a sympathetic target for a small drone and will definitely take the whole facility offline. This facility . . ./1

🚨🇷🇺 Did Russia just bomb a children’s hospital in Ukraine? No, it appears as though Ukraine bombed their own civilians… again. The missile that hit the hospital seems to be a Patriot PAC-3 interceptor (pointed nose), not a Russian KH-101 cruise missile (rounded nose). The missile in the video also lacks the distinctive wings of the Russian Kh-101. After the strike, locals posted pictures of Ukrainian air defense shrapnel at the site of the blast. The Russian Ministry of Defense refutes the accusations that they were responsible, stating it was a provocation by the Kiev regime ahead of the NATO summit, which they claim would benefit Ukraine.

@stepahin Not true. Lithuania uses gas from terminal in Klaipeda. And supplies part of it to Latvia and Poland. Gas flow from Latvia to Lithuania was 0 every day since February 24, except April 27-29. ambergrid.lt/en/transmissio…

Latvia continues to buy Russian gas, which it supplies to Lithuania, Estonia and Finland. Your money goes to Gazprombank and then directly from this bank (!) goes to pay the Russian army. Again: the soldiers salary comes to their bank cards from the same bank where you pay. 1/2

Stop issuing tourist visas to Russians. Visiting #Europe is a privilege, not a human right. Air travel from RU is shut down. It means while Schengen countries issue visas, neighbours to Russia carry the burden (FI, EE, LV – sole access points). Time to end tourism from Russia now
