🇬🇧 Rule Britannia marmalade and jam….

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with @orlaminihane. She reached out and explained how she got into campaigning and now politics. I think it’s a very admirable quality to take on board feedback and criticism and reach out to members so I really do thank her for that. It shows real leadership. It’s clear to me she’s a mum who had something dreadful happen to someone close to her at the hands of an illegal immigrant and decided to do something about it. Which is very inspiring. As for her time with Reform I think she was taken in thinking they’d help the profile of the campaign and ended up being treated appallingly much like many people who end up in and around a Farage led party. I won’t go in to details but she was treated really very badly. As someone who has decent insight into how Reform and their proxies operate her story rings true. That’s all to say I believe she is in politics for the right reasons and is very passionate about women’s safety. She has had a long career in the city and is undoubtedly experienced and qualified in high performing teams which is a good sign. As for her comments about “wrong’uns” and “extremists” she made it very clear she wasn’t referring to the rank and file Restore members but a few cases of the clearly bad faith people joining just to paint Restore with a bad brush. Restore are still in the early days. Policy lines and media training is in their infancy and it’s not Orla’s intention to punch right. I think they’ll have slicker stock answers to questions in the coming months. My sense is that Orla is pretty new to politics and the wider debates that go on within the online right e.g. ethnat vs civnat, Israel, etc. But I believe she’s open to hearing our arguments and is committed to turning our country around. We are going to need more clarity from the entire Restore leadership on their positions on demographics and what the eventual scale of deportations might look like but that isn’t Orla’s brief and I think she’ll do a very good job on women’s safety. I’ll admit to being a little sensitive given the experiences we’ve all had with Reform over the last 18 months. We all feel betrayed and let down and smeared by people we thought were on our side. But Orla reached out and hearing her story and views in more detail it’s clear she’s in this for the right seasons and has the character for a leadership role. We all have to be on the lookout for bad actors and people who are too centrist. So I won’t be taking my eye off the ball, but if they all answer questions from members in good faith like Orla has then we’ll be in good shape. This actually may be a good lesson in how Restore introduces new spokespeople to supporters going forward. Perhaps giving a bit more background about the person and some in depth interviews into their beliefs would assuage concerns. We’re a skeptical membership base after what we’ve been put through! We will undoubtedly not agree on everything but as I say I am at least confident our views will be heard and taken on board with Restore and we won’t be labelled or ostracised for sharing them. Anyways. Let’s move on and win this thing 🔥
