I'm actually quite optimistic for the future.
I've been feeling a strong desire to create lately, a draw towards physical beauty. I think I'm not alone in this and actually I expect it to be a trend over the coming decades. We have AI that lies to us, government that lies to us, media that lies to us and I think people are starting to reject it. The things that are causing us suffering now are catalysts for change.
I am optimistic that these forces will be a driver for us to return to our core nature. We have strayed from our nature, we have used tech to play god and more and more we are finding it doesn't make us happy. The more people are made unhappy by this "progress" the more they will start to reject it in search of the inverse.
The more tech complicates our lives, the more we will value simplicity. The more the government and media lies to us, the more we will value truth. The more AI generates an ethereal existence, the more we will strive to be grounded in reality.
We have lied to ourselves and fought our natures for decades now. It's nothing new, Kaczynski was writing about it back in the 90s already. The difference now is I feel it's coming close to a tipping point, the pendulum has swung about as far as it can go before people start to shout ENOUGH.
There's signs of this already. Politically we're rolling back on many policies that don't align with reality. We want to help people but the reality is letting in millions of people from a culture different than yours only causes more disharmony for all parties involved. So we're seeing some European nations already rolling back these policies among others that simply don't match the truth of our nature. And it's getting more acceptable to tell people they're objectively wrong when they try and force some narrative that simply isn't biologically, physically, or sociologically accurate. It's becoming ok again to say that men are men and women are women and that we aren't the same, we are different and our differences are beautiful and should be cherished rather than equalized into a middle ground that makes both suffer.
I think we will also accomplish this without a reversion back into the flawed policies of the past. We can hold on to the bits of good we have learned by exploring each extremity. I see us moving to a future where we acknowledge the difference between a man and woman but we do so without thinking less of either, without sexism. Where we acknowledge a difference between cultures but without segregation, without racism. Where science is not at the opposition of religion and spirituality but in harmony with it. We went from forcing hate upon people different than us to forcing acceptance, I think we settle in the middle in the truth where there is less hate but also less forced neutralization, an acknowledgement of our differences but critically an acceptance of them that we lacked in the past.
It's not just a difference in the sociological discourse either, it's present in the physical world too. Classic cars before all the electronics are increasing in value. Vinyl record sales are increasing, color is coming back to the world with design exiting its optimization phase where everything converged into minimalism and returning to the realization that unique quirks gives character and flaws make things beautiful.
Truth is at the core of this. We have spent decades violating truth by violating our nature, violating reality, and I think AI may be the final violation of nature that is too much for people to accept. The final swing of the pendulum away from nature before a glorious return.
