ED turnout is looking very strong for the GOP—this could end up being a good night for FL Republicans, with a real chance they hold all three seats. Democrats still have a shot in two of the seats. Predictions: 🔴 FL SD-14: Lean R 🔴 FL HD-51: Solid R 🟣 FL HD-87: Tossup

TONIGHT: VoteHub is covering three Florida state legislative specials—all in districts Trump won—where Democrats are eyeing flips. Included: FL HD-87 (Trump+11), Donald Trump’s own home district in South Florida, where Democrats are cautiously optimistic.

FL HD-51 in Polk County (on the I-4 corridor between Tampa and Orlando) is a Trump+12 district where Democratic turnout is lagging, and Republicans could potentially outperform Trump’s 2024 margin.

Democrats are also targeting FL SD-14 in Hillsborough County. At Trump+7, it was the bluest of the three seats. The district includes white suburban areas and heavily Hispanic communities west of Tampa.

The narrative is shifting toward Democrats… but so far national polling isn’t. Since February, the generic ballot has actually moved toward Republicans: 🔵 Feb 1: D+6.0 🔵 Today: D+4.7 🔴 Shift: R+1.3

Republicans should be cautiously optimistic about Virginia’s April 21 redistricting referendum. It is not a foregone conclusion, even in a Democratic state. The stakes are enormous: the outcome could flip four House seats, with major implications for both 2026 and 2028.
Zachary Donnini@ZacharyDonnini

Buried in Tuesday’s results, Republicans overperformed by 10 points in VA HD-98, even as Trump-era specials have typically seen Democrats overperform substantially. This comes as @StateNavigate's EV data is strong for the VA GOP ahead of the April 21 redistricting referendum.

This would not be the first time Republicans successfully backed a conservative spoiler on a liberal line to siphon votes. In 2024, Anthony Frascone, a Mike Lawler ally, won the Working Families Party nomination over Mondaire Jones. He won 2% of the vote in November.

A Nebraska judge dismissed Democrat Cindy Burbank’s lawsuit to be restored to the U.S. Senate primary ballot, keeping her off for now after GOP Sec. of State Bob Evnen ruled she wasn’t a “good-faith” candidate. She plans to appeal to the NE Supreme Court.

If Burbank’s appeal fails, Democrats could mount a write-in campaign to block Forbes, with the write-in nominee expected to withdraw to clear the field for Osborn. Write-in filing is May 1, 2026, and requires no petition signatures, making it relatively easy.

This would leave Bill Forbes as the lone Democrat on the ballot, a Pete Ricketts ally widely seen as aiming to siphon votes from Dan Osborn in November. Burbank’s strategy was to win the primary and then withdraw, leaving no Democrat on the ballot to help Osborn.
