@trigonis30 What is a traditional business? Colleges are traditionally non profit businesses

So you agree that college sports like college fine arts or college drama department isn't designed to be a business in traditional way?
Varun Kumar@vrkumar8

@trigonis30 There is no expectation for the athletic department to turn a profit. The chemistry department is also in the red, so is the English department. For athletic dept, there’s also a ton of overhead, scholarships are charged as a cost to the athletic department, etc

Most college athletic programs are in the RED. What "business" are you talking about? Most colleges are GOVERNMENT institutions or non-profit. You guys love counting heads in the stands but have NO idea what the costs are involved running colleges sports
Quincy Kelley@kelleyqh

@trigonis30 UR losing your message with the route ur going. Colleges long ago made it a business it’s the whole crutch as to why we are in the predicament that we are today with NIL/RevShare. Education angle you started with has strong legs though needs to be the focus going forward.

@trigonis30 Again, strawman argument. I never said anything about entitled. There is no cap on what an AAU coach can make. If Nike wanted to pay an EYBL coach a million dollars they can

Most AAU coaches are happy to volunteer their time and donate their resources. But under your theory it seems they may be ENTITLED to compensation since everybody deserves to be paid right?
Varun Kumar@vrkumar8

@trigonis30 We weren’t discussing any of those, I’m sure we could go through all aspects of labor in the system and find most of them could get compensated more. Is there some sort of artificial cap on AAU coaches getting paid that I’m unaware of?

@kylephillies21 @ChrisRo18951917 Do agree they were younger and faster but they really were there neck and neck with them the whole series. The issue was the defense corps was decimated by injury, Clarke made a huge mistake trading both Chris Therien and Eric Weinrich that year. And Justin Williams obviously

@ChrisRo18951917 Younger and faster. That was always our problem when Bob Clarke was GM. He wanted bruisers

What about the team managers? Why aren't you advocating for them to get paid? Or AAU coaches who not only work free for these players to get to college but spend significant $$ on them. Under your business theory are we also entitled to get paid and/or get reimbursed? Lol
Varun Kumar@vrkumar8

@trigonis30 Churches and colleges are and always have been businesses. Your last point is a strawman. Nobody said it’s a legal right to play college sports. But any entity cannot engage in what are deemed to be illegal practices

College Sports was never intended to be a "business" in traditional sense NEITHER are churches - some of whom generate significant revenue. Please show me where any athlete has any LEGAL or constitutional Right to play college sports
Varun Kumar@vrkumar8

@trigonis30 Business practices can be illegal and “take it or leave it” isn’t an iron clad concept. There was no minimum wage 100 years ago, no standard work week, NLRB, OSHA standards etc. People fought to get those rights and it’s now codified into our laws

It was not illegal. No different than a volunteer working for United Way or volunteering for a political campaign. Nobody was DECEIVED on what the deal was. Every player had the right NOT to accept it. NOBODY was entitled to it
Mit Winter@WinterSportsLaw

@trigonis30 Time to move on my man. It’s not going back to what it was. Problem with the old model is it was illegal.

@TheLoyalSons Hurley was telling people some uh, insanely unflattering things about the Pitt job in 2018. From what I was told by multiple people was that Pitt was used to get more money out of URI and UConn. If UConn hadn’t opened he would’ve stayed at URI

@vrkumar8 @jonjohnsonwip That is way wrong. If anything, he cared too much and was always trying to win instead of rebuild. But he always defended the Flyers against the league, so you are way off on that.

It’s a NEW American tradition: Texas-Raiders in the first ever Third Tuesday of October Classic, broadcast exclusively on Amazon Prime (must have accompanying Showtime subscription) and brought to you by WAYMO. Here’s Jelly Roll with a terrible theme song.

@vrkumar8 @jonjohnsonwip Ed Snider would never allow the league to pressure him as Harris and co did when the league forced out Hinkie and made them hire the Colangelo family. Sixers tanked, but the league didn’t fix that issue? OKC tanked “the right way” which is a joke.

@Jeff4ntstb @jonjohnsonwip While Ed had the gold standard facility built for the Flyers in Voorhees, the Sixers practiced at PCOM until Josh Harris built the facility in 2016 Ed Snider was complete dogshit as an owner for the Sixers, and there’s no amount of revisionist history that will change that.

Sports Illustrated could make a lot of money if they fixed the SI Vault, made it usable, searchable, complete and easy to read, and put it behind a paywall. Decades worth of great sports writing that you just can’t find anymore.
