@_alexander222 @KatryaLy I completely agree with you Alexander, I feel like everyone deserves an equal opportunity and their face or background should not affect admission decisions if anything it should play in favor of the student athlete @KatryaLy #ucr50

It is unfortunate that after so many things that have been enforced, things like title IX, women still are yet to see equality in the field since they are being hindered from opportunities. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

@_alexander222 @KatryaLy I also think its unfortunate that students are not being compensated when they should do. Students are expected to only dedicate their time to a sport when the sport itself is draining them and placing them in a difficult position #ucr50 @KatryaLy

It is unfortunate that athletes devote their heart and soul to their sport yet receive nothing in return. They are expected to put 120% of effort in their team regardless of the work that they also have to complete for school. This is very unfair. @KatryaLy #ucr50

@_alexander222 @KatryaLy I completely agree alexander, I think that it is unfair that women still need to make the extra effort when title xi should be enough for women to get the equal rights they deserve. Institutions should enforce equality in sports. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Title IX plays a key factor in sports as it prohibits discrimination based on sex in the college sports community. It is important for their to be gender equality so that women too can have the same rights on the field. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Cultural competency workshops would benefit so many students that are a part of the athletic world as it would allow them to understand their peers on a deeper level rather than them just being a “person on the same team”. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Here are some factors athletic leaders/educators should consider when trying strategies to encourage meaningful cross-racial experiences for college athletes: diversity training, team building exercises, and cultural competency workshops. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

It was mentioned that students that came from high schools that were highly segregated team compositions , had a harder time transitioning into a school that was not segregated (UCLA for example). How does the high school environment impact students? @KatryaLy #ucr50

@mariavalla299 @TA_ED50 I do believe that mental health effects student athletes especially those that have a hectic schedule, this doesn’t allow them to get the meals that they are supposed to be getting each day. Also some unfortunately seek alcohol rather than actual support. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

The health issues with college athletes are mental health and anxiety. Do you guys believe that college athletes' mental health causes them to resort to alcohol abuse and eating disorders? It shows that about 50% feel comfortable seeking support. #ucr50 @TA_ED50

Should student athletes allow their athletic ability reflect who they really are? How do drugs alter their egos, does it actually “help them”, why is this becoming a prevalent issue? @KatryaLy #ucr50

@lisscastrom @abhornUCRedu I think that you bring up a great questions. If students are expected to meet so many expectations, why should they not receive something that will benefit them ? After all they are human being and also have personal expense. @KatryaLy #ucr50

Should student athletes be compensated a "pay for play"? They are offered athletic grants or scholarships to help with tuition, but what about their personal expenses? Also, if the sport is bringing in all the funds, why can't they receive a portion of it? #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

Students tend to have a lot of things on there plate when it comes to them being in college. Most of them deal with work as well which takes a huge toll on them. How can students that are also involved in sports better be supported emotionally @KatryaLy #ucr50

@jserrano15_ @KatryaLy I see your point. Why are we investing so much money into sports especially in coaches? How does that benefit students that are not involved at all in any type of athletics? Do sports take away from the resources students could be getting. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Why are athletics the priority? Shouldn't everyone be getting an equal pay. It is not fair for faculty to be getting less money than the athletic department. Both should have the same funding since they both bring good things to the table. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

@_alexander222 @KatryaLy It is unfortunate that there is no boundaries when it comes to school and sports. Coaches think that a student athlete should prioritize their sport and only that, forgetting that they’re a STUDENT first and that they have other things on their plate.. @KatryaLy #UCR50

After reading ch 4, one important question to think about is, how do sports influence student athletes when picking their major? Do they guide them towards a less demanding major rather than one that has a heavy workload ? #UCR50 @KatryaLy
