As unfortunate as it is to hear that Ivy League schools favor privileged white students, it’s not at all surprising. It’s such a shame that these schools would rather create a back door for them than help those in need who don’t have access to the same resources @TA_ED50 #UCR50

Reading about the higher advantages for white athletes is upsetting but not surprising. Will POC ever get their opportunity? Will history always keep repeating itself? #UCR50 @KatryaLy

There needs to be a change!!! Student athletes do not profit off their own name, rather they are the ones to be doing all the work. It just doesnt seem right! #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

I feel that universities do not have the best interest at heart when it comes to athletes and athletes on full-ride scholarships. It is such a controversy and it really should not be which makes me feel this way! #UCR50 @KatryaLy

@gomezzkg @KatryaLy College sports programs need to give the same energy they give to men's sports. Women's sports don't get nearly as posted, covered and/or promoted as men's sports do. The attitude towards women's sports needs to be changed. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

I think that it is insane that after the final regulations for Title IX were issued, they still established a three-year time frame to be compliant with the LAW! When are we ever given so much time to be on board with a law here in the US nowadays?! #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Cultural competency workshops would benefit so many students that are a part of the athletic world as it would allow them to understand their peers on a deeper level rather than them just being a “person on the same team”. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Here are some factors athletic leaders/educators should consider when trying strategies to encourage meaningful cross-racial experiences for college athletes: diversity training, team building exercises, and cultural competency workshops. @TA_ED50 #UCR50

If colleges coaches are such a huge part of their athletes success, why is race a huge problem when choosing them? Athletes should be able to advocate for their own have someone they feel comfortable with, coaches of color matter! @KatryaLy #UCR50

@mdes101 @KatryaLy That’s a great question! Honestly it’s sad that there is a whole stigma created about how smart a college athlete is. I think the whole “jock” narrative is what plays a huge role in society and makes college athletes be put into those groups automatically. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Professors have curriculum or policies that can create barriers for collegiate athletes. Why is there a created stigma regarding the intelligence of college athletes? Certain perceptions are harmful to students. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Why is it presumed by professors that if you are an athlete, you are not smart? What conversations are happening behind closed doors to have a certain perspective on athletes. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

@mdes101 @KatryaLy I believe that students should be paid! With everything they go through and how they’re so talented, it should only be fair. Universities should be the only ones profiting off these students but the students themselves as well! #UCR50 @KatryaLy

College athletes do not recieve a share nor are compensated from the profit of their labor. While universities make millions of dollars from collegiate sports, student athletes are struggling to make ends meet. Should students be paid?#UCR50 @KatryaLy

Chapter 6 stated that many college athletes face a lot of mental and emotional stress from dealing with the pressure of their sport. How have universities better supported their college athletes with resources in recent years to help them with this? #UCR50 @KatryaLy

@lisscastrom @abhornUCRedu I totally am there with you! It was so surprising and jaw dropping to find out that COACHES made more money than their fellow peers who were at their college who are educators. It’s a sad reality that doesn’t seem resolvable any time soon. @KatryaLy

I never expected to find out that college sports COACHES make more than the professors who work at the SAME college and level. It really shows how much college sports has become much more important for the school’s image than their academic records. #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu

@lajoserafin I totally agree with your statement. Prioritizing athletics over their scholars has become a huge problem for the sole purpose of all the money in brings in to the university, it’s sad. @KatryaLy

Schools recognized for their PhD programs seem to provide more funding to their athletic programs. This speaks to them prioritizing their athletes over the scholars trying to build on the academic achievements they supposedly stand for. @TA_ED50 #UCR50 air.org/sites/default/…

I genuinely feel that there should be no president role, it seems useless. Athletic directors seem to have the description of a "president" and WAY more when it comes to their athletic department. @KatryaLy #UCR50
