Picking up 20 m WSPR beacons from two amateur radio balloons, here in Metro Vancouver. KI6DS & DL1MTK. Using MLA-30+ loop antenna, SDRplay RSPduo tuner.

@PE1RDP If the weather would calm down here. I have a 12m pico balloon to launch as well

@Gregbadilla You can use it. Your most likely will not get the altitude, it’s usually diluted 75-85% helium. I use pure helium 99% I get it from a local weld gas supplier.

@Steepcurvature I do, the tracker transmits x2 two minute transmissions that give altitude, temp, location, speed, and a few other things, then I take the current spot and enter it into HYSPLIT which is under NOAA for predicting travel according to location traquito.github.io/search/spots/d…

@w3ipa do you have actual telemetry? This is a really long range comunications and for a device that compact, is a challenge.

Balloons path prediction this morning shows we should be heading for Northern Africa in the next few days.

@Gregbadilla a.co/d/0gyuIBni I initially inflate it all the way with a small pump to stretch it and test to see if it has a leak from the get go. I believe it’s a fish tank bubbler motor. Then deflate it all the way before you fill it with your lift gas

@w3ipa Awesome. I'm waiting my pico to start to build the first wspr balloon launched in Costa Rica. Which balloon are you using for your wspr sonde? 73!

@vomit73 @loebl_tom Yep, halfwave vertical dipole. One section is running up the support string from the tracker to the balloon and other section is just trailing below it.
