Aspirin works mainly by blocking the COX-2 enzyme, thus reducing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins) from polyunsaturated fat (PUFA). The more PUFA we eat, the more pro-inflammatory prostaglandins we produce, unless we ingest food/supplements that block COX-2, like aspirin. Aspirin a.k.a. acetylsalicylic acid, is salicylic acid (found in high amounts in white willow bark) combined with acetic anhydride Decomposition of aspirin yields salicylic acid and acetic acid (as found in vinegar) This special combination allows it to powerfully acylate (irreversibly inhibit) the COX enzymes, thus reducing the production of pro-inflammatory compounds. On top of that, aspirin then also changes the function of COX, converting the enzyme’s activity from a prostaglandin-forming cyclooxygenase to a lipoxygenase-like enzyme. This is why taking low doses of aspirin (81mg-1g) is one of the best ways to reduce inflammation and improve health.

Aspirin reduces oxidative stress and muscle damage during exercises, while promoting proper mitochondrial function during exercise. This study (in elite Taekwondo athletes) shows that aspirin before exercises lowered post-workout lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) Amazing!

💥1876 : Blue and Sun-Lights du Général A.J.

Gut First
Gut First@GutFirstHealth·
You bloat within 30 minutes of eating. Food sits heavy and gas builds before the meal is even finished, every sign points to low stomach acid. So obviously you tried Betaine HCl because it's the logical thing to do, but it burned so bad you stopped and assumed low acid wasn't your issue after all. Your symptoms still point to LOW acid. Your body just couldn't handle the treatment in this state. See your stomach lining is protected by a mucus layer that's 95% water and nearly 700 micrometres thick when it's healthy, It shields the cells underneath from their own acid. When it's intact acid does its job and you never feel it. When it's thin even normal amounts of acid burn the tissue directly. This is why slippery elm and aloe vera soothe your stomach for a few hours and then stop working. They coat the surface temporarily, a short-lived replica of the mucus your body should be producing on its own. It helps because it mimics what's missing. Then it washes away and nothing replaces it because the cells that produce mucus are too inflamed or depleted to keep up. So the real question isn't why is my acid low. It's why did the mucus layer fail in the first place. Several things can thin it and you might recognise more than one. If NSAIDs have been part of your life, even just regular ibuprofen for headaches, they inhibit the prostaglandins responsible for mucus production and physically penetrate the barrier itself. Research shows 67% of patients with NSAID-related stomach damage have significant mucin loss, meaning every tablet was thinning the shield while you were just treating a headache. If chronic stress has been in the picture, whether emotional, physical, or both, it depletes those exact same prostaglandins. Studies on stress ulcers show they're directly associated with reduced gastric mucosal prostaglandin levels. The mucus was thinning while you were just trying to keep going and you had no way of knowing. If bile reflux is involved, and you'd recognise this from burning that's worse when you bend over or lie down after eating, bile acids dissolve the phospholipid component of your mucus directly. Two thirds of bile reflux patients show documented mucin cell depletion and the alkaline bile raises stomach pH which allows bacteria to colonise the stomach itself, driving more inflammation on top of the damage. If hydration has been inconsistent, and be honest with yourself here, a structure that's 95% water simply cannot maintain itself without adequate supply. This is the simplest cause and the one most people dismiss entirely. Any of these can start the process. But here's what turns it from a minor issue into one that progressively gets worse on its own. When mucus thins enough for acid to reach the cells underneath, those cells become inflamed. TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, the inflammatory cytokines produced in response to this damage, directly lower parietal cell acid secretion through multiple pathways simultaneously. They block histamine stimulation, vagal stimulation, and gastrin stimulation all at once. Meaning the inflammation from the damaged lining is actively suppressing the cells that produce acid. Less acid means more bacteria survive through the stomach into the small intestine. More bacteria downstream means more inflammation. That inflammation sends TNF-alpha and IL-1beta right back to the stomach, suppressing the parietal cells further, thinning the mucus further, letting even more bacteria through. Whatever originally thinned the mucus, whether it was stress or ibuprofen or poor hydration, the overgrowth it eventually created is now feeding back into the stomach and preventing it from recovering. What started as mildly low acid from a thinned mucus layer becomes progressively worse because the downstream consequences are amplifying the original cause. This is why your stomach issues seemed to appear gradually and kept getting worse even though nothing in your life obviously changed. The cycle was tightening beneath the surface. Breaking it means rebuilding the mucus and calming the inflammation simultaneously. DGL and Aloe stimulate mucus production directly, meaning the prostaglandins that were depleted by stress or NSAIDs are being functionally replaced. Unlike a one-off dose of slippery elm that coats and washes away, consistent use supports the ongoing production your stomach needs to maintain its own protection. NAG provides the raw building blocks for the mucin glycoproteins themselves. You can stimulate production all you want but without the structural materials the cells can't actually build the layer. Zinc L-Carnosine works on the lining cells underneath, the ones that have been exposed and slowly degrading. Boswellia lowers TNF-alpha by up to 50%. If TNF-alpha is the cytokine directly suppressing your parietal cells and perpetuating the cycle, reducing it is what gives both the mucus and the acid-producing cells room to recover at the same time. This is the compound that breaks the feedback loop. Curcumin targets NF-kB, the master inflammatory switch that chronic gut inflammation keeps activating. Calming this pathway helps interrupt the signal between downstream overgrowth and upstream stomach damage. Sulforaphane activates Nrf2, your body's master antioxidant defense pathway, addressing the oxidative damage that accumulates when acid meets unprotected tissue over months and years. Rebuild the mucus. Calm the inflammation that's been suppressing acid production. Let the parietal cells recover in an environment that actually allows them to work. Then if you still need Betaine HCl the surface can handle it. That bottle you put away wasn't the wrong supplement. It was the right one at the wrong time. If you want to figure out whether your stomach lining is the bottleneck and what to prioritise first: gutfix.ai/quiz

causes of gut issues: - bacterial overgrowth - low calorie diet: not enough to maintain gut lining - low stomach acid - low motility: not pooing enough - estrogen dominance: sluggish bile - low carb diet - low thyroid - stress - not enough collagen and protein - nutrient deficiencies
