@w_0013 @JJCooperWX I think that it should just be more liberal, tornadoes like Chapman, Vilonia, Mayfield and others should just be >200

@Christo_WX @JJCooperWX I suppose as I reread what I just wrote, basing a tornado rating purely off damage is understandable, but I feel like we should additionally have a rating based on maximum measured wind speed (again assuming we can get 100% accurate measurements)

@Christo_WX @JJCooperWX Fair, completely fair. And those are great examples. Though would you agree that if, and a big if, we could accurately measure wind speeds at relative that we should base a tornado EF rating off that as opposed to damage?

@Christo_WX @JJCooperWX As a result, NWS offially rated El Reno as an EF3. The largest tornado ever recorded on earth, with measured wind speeds of insane proportions, was rated an EF3 because that was the damage that was found. I just don’t think that makes sense.

@Christo_WX @JJCooperWX Fair enough. My big complaint is modern radar does a very good job at measuring wind speeds. Take the El Reno Tornado as a great example; even though a mobile Doppler truck measured wind speeds in excess of 300+ MPH in the el Reno storm, there was no damage beyond EF3
