Mehrab Khalid, a student of NCA Lahore, was forcefully detained alongside his friends on the night of 29 May. While his friends were later released, Mehrab Khalid’s whereabouts remain unknown. Baloch students have long been subjected to enforced disappearances and fake encounters. Educated and talented Baloch youth are being severely targeted. They are threatened, harassed and forcibly disappeared across Pakistan. Whether in Balochistan, Sindh, Islamabad, Lahore or Punjab, Baloch students are considered a threat. These acts reflect that the state is systematically preventing Baloch students from acquiring education peacefully. We urge people from all walks of life to take practical measures against the state’s barbarism so that Baloch students may pursue their education peacefully across Pakistan. #ReleaseMehrabKhalid

Enforced Disappearance of Filmmaker and Cameraman Mehrab Khalid 30 May 2026 | Lahore PAANK strongly condemns the enforced disappearance of Mehrab Khalid, a resident of Turbat, district Kech, a film student at the National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore, and an aspiring filmmaker and cameraman. According to reports, Pakistani security forces detained Mehrab Khalid during a raid in Lahore on the night of 29 May 2026. Eight of his classmates were also taken into custody but were later released, while Mehrab remains forcibly disappeared and his whereabouts continue to be unknown. PAANK expresses grave concern for Mehrab’s safety and well-being. The targeting of students, artists, filmmakers, and young professionals through enforced disappearances represents a serious violation of fundamental human rights and freedom of expression. We demand the immediate and safe release of Mehrab Khalid, disclosure of his whereabouts, and full accountability for those responsible for his unlawful detention and enforced disappearance. #ReleaseMehrabKhalid #EndEnforcedDisappearances

Mehrab Khalid, a passionate filmmaker and content creator, worked tirelessly to secure admission to the National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore. After years of dedication and hard work, he achieved that dream and is currently in his third semester. Last night, Mehrab was forcibly disappeared along with four of his colleagues. While his friends were released hours later, Mehrab remains missing, and his whereabouts are still unknown. His enforced disappearance is yet another example of the systematic targeting of Baloch students and youth. At a time when young people should be pursuing their education, creativity, and aspirations, Baloch students continue to face fear, persecution, and enforced disappearance. #ReleaseMehrabKhalid

Pakistan: Dad Shah was forcibly disappeared from his home in Karachi, Sindh, on 21 April by state officials allegedly belonging to the Counter Terrorism Department. Since then, his family has received no information about his whereabouts. When his mother and sister tried to speak out, they were harassed and detained by the local police. His family believes he is being targeted in connection with his sister’s human rights activism. 📢 Authorities must immediately reveal his fate and whereabouts, ensure his safety, and end all reprisals against his family. Take action NOW: amnesty.org/en/documents/a… #EndEnforcedDisappearances

While families celebrate Eid with their children, Sindh’s innocent daughters #ParyaKumari and #UjalaSolangi are still away from their mothers. Their mothers’ arms remain empty, and their eyes still wait in hope. Let us raise our voices together for their safe return.

28 May is projected as a symbol of nuclear power and military strength, but for the Baloch nation it represents a lasting scar of colonial violence and the militarized occupation of indigenous land. The nuclear detonations in the Raskoh mountains of Chaghi in 1998 turned Balochistan into a permanent sacrifice zone, exposing how Baloch land is reduced to a strategic resource for power projection, geopolitical interests and military expansion rather than the homeland of a people with inherent rights. Under entrenched settler colonial and militarized systems, the land, resources and future of the Baloch have been subjected to sustained control, extraction and dispossession. The Baloch Nation was never part of the decision that transformed their homeland into a nuclear testing ground. The communities of Chaghi were left without warning, protection or accountability. In the aftermath, entire settlements were displaced, water sources were poisoned, grazing lands destroyed and generations condemned to live with the long term consequences of radiation exposure, chronic disease, environmental collapse and economic ruin. What remains is not only physical destruction but a deep intergenerational suffering that continues to define life in the region. For the Baloch nation, 28 May is not a day of pride but a reminder of the continued reality that Balochistan remains under a militarized and colonial structure, where land, resources and human lives are subordinated to state interests while political and human rights are systematically ignored. This date is also described as part of a long standing and structural process of violence against the Baloch people, often referred to as a pre planned Baloch genocide. #NukeAftermathInBalochistan
