Wails v3 shipped 17 alpha releases in Q1 2026. Here's what landed: ↓

Still alpha, but shipping fast. alpha.55 cut binary size and improved runtime perf: • Removed 3 deps → ~1.5MB smaller • Switched to goccy/go-json → 21–63% faster JSON, 40–60% fewer allocations • Stack-allocated arg buffer for methods with ≤8 args Less weight, faster calls.

alpha.72 fixed a painful one: wails3 build and wails3 dev hanging 20–30 min on projects with heavy JS deps (MUI etc). Cause: go-task's sources: "*/" was checksumming every file in node_modules/ — 50–100k+ files on NTFS. Fix: exclude node_modules/. Builds are instant again.

Drag-and-drop reworked in alpha.56, fixes through .69: • File drop at non-100% Windows scaling ✓ • HTML5 DnD no longer broken with file drop on ✓ • Drop coords fixed (physical vs CSS pixels) ✓ • Linux hover reliable ✓ New API: EnableFileDrop + WindowFilesDropped.

macOS this quarter (alphas .65–.74): • Modal sheets • .icon files for Liquid Glass / asset catalogs • <input type="file"> picker fix • Off-thread AppKit ghost windows fix • Frameless window minimise • Systray menu highlight fix

alpha.68 landed experimental GTK4 + WebKitGTK 6.0 for Linux. wails3 build -tags gtk4 Big deal for distros moving off GTK3. GTK3/WebKit2GTK 4.1 stays default - gtk4 is opt-in while we stabilise. Also fixes DPI, window position, max size, menu dedup.

alpha.64 added experimental server mode. Build your Wails app as an HTTP server - no native GUI required: `wails3 build -tags server` Same Go backend, same bindings, zero WebView. Docs: v3.wails.io/guides/server-…

@moeruri @seraro_dev @ChromiumDev The only v2 systray errors were when people were using 3rd party libs that also wanted to control the event loop

@wailsapp @seraro_dev @ChromiumDev I previously raised an issue about this, and at that time someone in the Discord group created a fork version that fixed it. Recently I tried upgrading to wails3 and removing the fork version, but encountered the system tray error again. discord.com/channels/10427…

Skip #Electron. Use @wailsapp + Your frontend framework of choice. Wails leverages the native OS webview instead of bundling @ChromiumDev. The result is ~15MB binaries and ~10MB baseline memory usage. It delivers a vastly superior, lightweight experience for users. #desktopapps
