I remember watching the first man on the moon landing some 50years ago which was very exciting as this new mission is. Can anyone tell me why it is that they are not actually going to land on the moon but circle round it. WAKE UP BRITAIN. WAKE UP EUROPE. We face a 25% chance of a pandemic in next 5 years, yet still no clear lessons learnt, let alone training for key decision takers. A majority of Europeans believe we will face a global scale conflict in next 5-10 years, and our military say we have 4 years to rearm and modernise our Armed Forces, yet we are not funding defence towards the levels NATO requires. In the UK, HMT will start to fund in 5 years time. In the EU only @GiorgiaMeloni seems to understand credible deterrence. Finance, energy and supply chains are being weaponised, and we face new threats from cyber, AI and disinformation. Organised crime will get even more sophisticated and illegal migration push factors will increase. Governments have been reliant on failing deterrence to combat illegal migration but need different legal and operational models to combat it. On the eve of the UK budget I have been addressing Europe’s insurers in Prague about how we can get governments to perform better to create true resilience, and how they can help us succeed. The first duty of government is to protect its citizens and their interests. Currently we are failing them.
