@MishaalRahman They used the Camera2 Extensions constants when initializing the CameraX extensions in the vendor library: - Auto -> Crash - Bokeh -> HDR - HDR -> Night - Night -> Beauty - Beauty -> Bokeh

In Android 14 DP2 for the Pixel 6 and 7 series, ro.camerax.extensions.enabled now returns true. This suggests that these devices now have valid CameraX vendor extensions, though I don't know which one since @Wander1236's CameraX Info app crashes.

@Wander1236 @MishaalRahman Traditional A/B test must be planned first and merged into the production version. It's usually a hard balance for QA and release timeframe. Much better if it can be pushed to some users in no time, without affecting the other users. We used Dexposed for A/B testing in the past.

So there are lots of new APIs in Android 14 that I'll talk about soon, but there's one new API in particular that I wanted to hear your thoughts on: OverlayManager. It's no longer internal and can be used by apps to create self-targeting FRROs. What will you use this for?

@oasisfeng @MishaalRahman FRROs are generated by the framework on demand. You could definitely set up some sort of A/B test to tell the app to generate an FRRO with a given value, but I'm not sure if that's easier than just using SharedPreferences instead.

@MishaalRahman Probably suitable for UI A/B test on the fly? Can FRROs be delivered outside Google Play Store? Like being downloaded directly from app backend.

A user on the XDA forums has disclosed an escalation of privilege vulnerability in the Samsung TTS app that reportedly grants attackers full arbitrary code execution as the system user (UID 1000). Users are taking advantage of this to open a system-based shell on Samsung devices.

I know true-wireless earbuds are all the rage, but I really wish there were more options for neckband earbuds. I like being able to just wear my earbuds around my neck without having to keep track of three parts. CW: Swift (the programming language) slander Every time I use Swift it feels like someone made a language based on vague half-memories of how Kotlin works. Swift has a lot of the same shortcuts and convenience features as Kotlin, but they all feel… @wander1236/109398957325008313" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">androiddev.social/@wander1236/10…

I'm still kind of disappointed that the "Ventura update" for Parallels Desktop didn't include Rosetta for Linux support and later updates haven't added it. From what I can tell, it should be an easy thing to add, and it makes calling Parallels 18… @wander1236/109390275143728212" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">androiddev.social/@wander1236/10…

It's definitely not a dealbreaker (so many other things are so much better here), just another nice-to-have on the list of nice-to-haves.

I might be missing something, but I kind of wish the default for how replies work here was a bit more like Twitter. It gets a little confusing seeing every part of a conversation from people you follow interspersed with other posts and… @wander1236/109383407792518705" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">androiddev.social/@wander1236/10…
