@DrNickDalmon @anaesthetic_spr I have a great idea how it works, your attitude is unnecessary and typical of what people think of doctors.Nobody said ALS was the be all and end all,I’m just letting you know this is how they are trained and accredited.

@wardo1986 @anaesthetic_spr Tell me you have no idea how medical school works without telling me you have no idea how medical school works Also, ALS is not the be all and end all. You need the knowledge behind it all to make sense of what's going on and decision making. ALS is just an algorithm

Dear nurses and ANPs, This is your 3-year nursing curriculum. Can you please explain why you think you can look after critically unwell children in resus after becoming student ANPs (tACPs)? I was asked by a student ACP to delete a screenshot where they mentioned on social media that they can lead cardiac arrests as student ACPs! Where are the anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, microbiology, and other subjects in your nursing degree? Discuss.

@anaesthetic_spr Yes I’m saying your newly F1 only started placements in their fourth year and you are saying they have it all figured out just because they are doctors. In order to lead any cardiac arrest ACPs/ANPs have to do ALS training for which they have to be assessed

@wardo1986 This is a medical student; newly qualified doctors are F1s. Medical students are not allowed to lead paediatric cardiac arrests, unlike these year-3 student ACPs apparently think they can. I am just interested to know where these nurses get this level of confidence from?

@anaesthetic_spr So you think a newly qualified doctor who only starts doing placement in 4th year has it all figured out?

Lisa, your part-time Master’s while working as a Band 7 tACP means nothing compared to full-time medical school training. Also, this ACP MSc course did not mention that nurses/physios should have 5-15 years of experience before joining the course??? For example, Edge Hill University’s entry criteria don’t specify this. #entry-criteria-section" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">edgehill.ac.uk/course/advance… And King’s College London mentions only a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience. Get serious kcl.ac.uk/study/postgrad…

Wes @wesstreeting The same-day emergency care (SDEC) unit in my hospital is staffed by: 🔻2 ACPs (god knows what base profession) 🔻2 ANPs (nurses) 🔻4 physician assistants 🔻1 clinical pharmacist This means 9 doctor posts are permanently occupied by people who are allowed to work exactly as GPs (they take referrals from GPs and can reject any referral they don’t like). They provide poor-quality and unsafe healthcare. They don’t even write up a drug chart when their patient is admitted. This is why doctors are unemployed.

But Lisa, when you’re fired from your job as an ANP, for whatever reason, you can still pick up nursing shifts elsewhere. The reason GPs are hiring you now is because of ARRS funding, and this is the unfortunate way the government has flooded primary care with paramedics, podiatrists, nurses, and others doing the GP’s role. You were trained as a nurse, and you shouldn’t be seeing patients in the same way doctors do without going through medical school.

@anaesthetic_spr @wesstreeting What do you mean nurses get irritated when asked to work as nurses?Band 5 ward work versus ANP work?I’ve worked for 20 years as a nurse and completed my masters and my prescribing and earned my position. The junior doctors come to me for support

@wardo1986 @wesstreeting It takes five years to train students to become doctors in medical school, do I have that kind of time? Also why do nurses get irritated when they’re asked to work as nurses?

@anaesthetic_spr @wesstreeting Stop slating ANPs and ACPs!It is not their fault that your hospital won’t pay for doctors and not one of them are trying to be a doctor either. You should try and raise your concerns with the hospital and not on twitter to try and belittle ANPs

@KreedKafer @ConsUltaNT_ACP ANPs are highly qualified clinicians, educated to master’s level and trained to assess, diagnose, investigate, prescribe, and manage patient care autonomously. Listening to an ANP isn’t a matter of intelligence — it’s a matter of respect for professional expertise and practice.

@DrNeenaJha @FormerSpring @DrNeenaJha we are bound by the NMC so you are not accountable for us.As an experienced ANP who has been nursing for 20 years and worked as an ANP in respiratory aswell, maybe you should ask how you can help enhance their knowledge rather than to belittle a nurse

@FormerSpring We often don’t have a set room though, that’s the issue. Also we need to address the core issue here - we have physios/nurses/paramedics etc practicing as a GP without a medical degree.

I have been a GP for 12 years. This is literally my job. This is what I trained 11 years for (6 years medical school + 2 yrs foundation + 3 years specialty training) for it to be deemed safe to do this role. Can anyone explain what an ACP does that is different to a GP?
