Exactly 79 years ago today, Jackie Robinson debuted and changed everything. Death threats. Racial abuse. But he played—and won Rookie of the Year. ‘The loneliest man in baseball’ became a champion. #JackieRobinsonDay

@Fan960Steinberg I’m not sure what the Flames did yesterday could be called “playing”, but probably no need for a morning skate anyway.
English

A three-game home stand to end the season starts tonight vs. Utah.
Dustin Wolf vs. Vitek Vanecek is the expected matchup in net, but will confirm at warmup. Both teams played Saturday, so neither held morning skates.
7:00 pm puck drop. #Flames

@RyanWalker_v3 @kouthet @RingOfFireCGY Looked like he has his hand on his back and pushed, kind of like WWE head into the turnbuckle minus the hand on the head. Good response from the Flames but Pospisil should have let Lomberg do the fighting.
English

@kouthet @RingOfFireCGY wasnt even a hit he just rode him straight into the glass
English

Ryan Lomberg and Martin Pospisil both wanted a piece of Dominik Shine after he hit Hunter Brzustewicz

@Gregpboh23 @Fan960Steinberg @Sportsnet960 I agree 💯 but I also think it’s great for the team that Farabee is a guy who would be chosen as an alternate.
English

@Fan960Steinberg @Sportsnet960 Doesn’t really matter but I would run:
C: Backlund
A: Coleman
A: Lomberg
A: Whitecloud
English

With a number of alternate captains moving on, head coach Ryan Huska says Joel Farabee will wear an A tonight at home. Zach Whitecloud will do the same on the road.
Huska says a few other players might get worked into the mix, too. #Flames

@RingOfFireCGY I say Utah tongue in cheek because of Iginla, but also think Utah, Buffalo, Columbus type teams have been drafting higher longer, so would have better prospects, picks that would likely be earlier than the top contenders, and would be better served by trading for guys with term.
English

@wardo2020 I have no idea.
It's hard to gauge how valuable they are because of their age and contracts.
English

"The Calgary #Flames are still testing the market on Nazem Kadri, who by the way, wants to be traded at this point."
Interesting comment from Dreger. I believe he is the first insider to report this.
Everything we've heard prior is that Kadri was "open" to being moved.

@FriedgeHNIC Bronze game is AFTER gold game start time? Because people care about 3rd place bronze more apparently?
English

@Killerdg93 @andrew_danelon @FriedgeHNIC Technically there is a re-seed if a lower seeded team wins. If Swe beats the US, Slo becomes the 2 seed. It can change the semis matchups. If they didn’t re-seed Can would play the winner of Fin/Swi, regardless of the US/Swe result. With re-seed Can plays Swe if they win.
English

Sweden beats Latvia 5-1 to close out the qualifying round. Tomorrow’s final game is a banger that could’ve been a gold-medal matchup
QUARTERFINAL WEDNESDAY
6:10 AM ET
(3) Slovakia vs (6) Germany
10:40 AM ET
Canada vs (8) Czechia
12:10 PM ET
(4) Finland vs (5) Switzerland
3:10 PM ET
(2) USA vs (7) Sweden
We will re-seed for the semifinals
English

@andrew_danelon @Killerdg93 @FriedgeHNIC It depends on all four games. If Canada loses and US wins the US plays the Czechs, seed 2 vs seed 8. Reseed is misleading. The teams seeding is set, Czechs are seed 8 now until the end. What happens is the bracket is reset.
English

@Killerdg93 @wardo2020 @FriedgeHNIC i dont think they do reseed because if canada wins and so does finland we would play them im pretty sure but wjo knows
English

@historyinmemes Wait, disqualified for what? Like a toe on the line thing or some weird rule? I need the details lol

In 1993, a Chicago Bulls fan took a shot at winning $1 million—only to have the attempt end in disqualification.
On April 14, 1993, during halftime of a Chicago Bulls–Miami Heat game, a fan named Don Calhoun was selected from the crowd to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime challenge. The task sounded simple: make a shot from the opposite baseline, straight across the court. As the arena fell silent, Calhoun launched the ball—and seconds later, it dropped cleanly through the hoop, igniting the crowd.
The moment was electric. Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen rushed over to embrace him, celebrating what looked like an impossible feat. For Calhoun, it was a dream scenario: center court glory and a promised $1 million prize.
But the celebration didn’t last. American Hole ’N One Inc., the insurer backing the contest, refused to pay out after discovering Calhoun had previously played college basketball, violating rules that barred anyone with university, semi-pro, or professional experience.
Rather than letting the moment end in disappointment, others stepped in. Coca-Cola, the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant group, and even Jordan and fellow Bulls players helped make things right. Calhoun ultimately received a deal paying $50,000 a year for 20 years—about $760,000 after taxes—cementing the shot’s place in NBA history not just for its accuracy, but for the unity and goodwill that followed.
English

@andrew_danelon @FriedgeHNIC Highest seed remaining plays lowest seed remaining. Traditionally winner of 1 vs 8 plays winner of 4 vs 5, and winner of 2 vs 7 plays winner of 3 vs 6. Re-seed theoretically provides the top seed with the easiest path to the gold medal.
English

@FriedgeHNIC what does this re-seed mean. canada cant play the us in the semis so dont understand what is meant by that
