Club Statement | 6th May 2026 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐅𝐂 𝐇𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐔𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐭 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝, 𝐇𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞, 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞. 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐇𝐃𝟔 𝟐𝐏𝐋 Brighouse Town AFC has taken the decision to request a realignment in the non-league football structure and return to playing at an amateur level at Step 7 of the Football League Non-league pyramid. The hope is to be accepted into the West Yorkshire Association Football League. Dialogue has already begun with the management committee of this league and there has been a very positive response and reaction to our plans. We have notified the Northern Premier League and the FA of our decision and await guidance on the formal process to enable this to happen. This is decision hasn’t been taken lightly but affords the men’s senior team a reset and a chance to re-establish itself and grow once again. The Club takes great pride in its rise from the former West Riding County Amateur League in 2008 to the Northern Counties League First Division and then gaining promotion to the Northern Counties Premier League in 2010. Promotion to the Northern Premier League – step 4 of the Non-League Football Pyramid was gained in 2014 where it has remained up until this season. We have often said we felt we were batting above our station, but we have had a great ride and some fantastic memories and friendships made. Spiralling wage, travel, infra-structure and administrative costs along with the loss of key experience at a senior level have caused a strategic re-appraisal and need for re-alignment. Mark Booth has stepped forward to take the role of Chairperson of the whole club, and he will be ably assisted by Julian Prior as Secretary along with existing members of the Club’s committee. The Junior and Women’s sections are unaffected and continue to grow, and this decision will allow the whole club the chance to move forward as a united entity. Although this is the end of one era, it is the start of a new one. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to our supporters, volunteers, and partners for their continued backing. We hope you will remain with us on this journey as we build the next chapter of Brighouse Town AFC and continue to provide a football hub that the town can be proud of. @EmmaGroundGuide Fair enough - it came across differently because of your 'chase the dream' comment! Brighouse have worked honestly and within their means! Many clubs throw money they don't have at it and go bust! It's a legitimate move and I hope my old club rebuilds and is better for it! 🍊

@wardscoaching ‘Struggling to keep up with the ridiculous spending’ As in other clubs spending so much means clubs like Brighouse can’t compete without risking the future of the club and are forced into decisions like this

Brighouse Town dropping from step 4 to step 7 We are seeing more and more of this as clubs struggle to keep up with the ridiculous spending in #nonleague Sadly I can see it getting worse before it gets better as clubs chase the dream then the money runs out

To do a job you need a qualification.. I'm not sure what the problem with badges are?
The Sporting Resource@TheS_Resource

Mark White has managed over 1,000 games for @DorkingWDRS guided the club through 12 promotions in 25 seasons, and combines the roles of owner, chairman, and manager. He has no coaching qualifications and he has no intention of getting any. When told he'd need badges to manage in the English Football League, his response was simple, why do I need something to prove I am something? It's a question worth taking seriously, but it's not the whole picture. It's all in the comments 👇

One of my bigger challenges has been creating a framework for our coaches in terms of how we want all of our teams to play and our identity on the field. A few things that were top of mind when creating our most current version…

@WeAreTheOverlap Yes - you got criticism - but not from club legends... and that's the entire point Martinez was making! 👍🏻

at glory with England then will move on and back to a similar model with Southgate - somebody who can work with and build a young side over 3-4 tournaments! Not sure who that is right now, though.. Eddie Howe is making a good case in the way that he sets his teams up!

Whatever people think of Tuchel he knows what it takes as he did the same with his other clubs - created teams over groups of individuals! His downfall is usually losing his temper with an owner or player and it escalating to the point of no return!! I think he'll have one shot

It's no secret Southgate suffered with the pressure to play Bellingham, Grealish, Foden, palmer, AND Saka all in attacking positions. Looks like Tuchel isn't bowing to that pressure, thankfully. A rare criticism I have of Southgate is he let himself get bullied by the press
