@MCCCANM As a pax I always appreciate when being told what is going on, even it’s in layman’s terms. It really does help.

I think we can communicate better as pilots. Explain things to passengers in a non-technical way so they understand. They are much more patient when you do. I don’t love the podium address, though. It’s gotten cringe & kind of self-centered. I’m personally not a fan of coming out of the cockpit to give my opening PA, either…feels like I’m saying “hey, look at me! Clap for me!” and I also am reading it off a script I wrote on my yokenote. It’s the same format every time, I just update the names, forecast, cruise altitude, etc.. The airline app gives various excuses for the delay, based on how we are allowed to classify it, but I’ve found it to not be as helpful as it could be & often it generates more confusion. So a clear explanation helps, but that should be on the pilot that’s going to fly, not the one who brought the jet in. Finally, we take turns doing the PA when actually in flight…whoever is not flying does them. I’ve noticed plenty of First Officers that mumble or speak too softly…that isn’t going to be heard over those speakers. They also just say the absolute minimum (or even less) & don’t appear to have given any thought to how they will relay information, which is disappointing. When you turn the seatbelt sign on, tell them how long you think it might be on for. Better yet, give them a warning ahead of time if you suspect it may come on in the next 20 minutes or so. My airline doesn’t have any specific course on what to say & how, just some examples in the Operations Manual. I kind of wish we spent a couple hours talking about this. It’s most of your interactions with passengers – our paying customers – & can make a huge difference.

I just had the craziest experience at the airport. We are about to board a flight to Atlanta when the pilot from the incoming plane walks out of the jetway. Guy is probably late 50s, salt and pepper hair, military look. The kind of pilot you instantly feel good about seeing on your flight. Pilot walks over to the counter, gets on the PA system, and starts addressing everyone. “Folks, I’ve been doing this a long time. Flying one of these jets is easy. The hard part is looking at 130 people and telling them their flight is going to be delayed.” Audible groans throughout the boarding gate. Most people here are flying to Atlanta as a layover before another flight. 130 people just had their day become a complete mess. The pilot goes on. “I get it, trust me. But here’s the deal: During our landing, we had a small mechanical issue. I’m not your pilot for the next leg, but I don’t feel confident the jet’s safe to fly until we have a mechanical team look it over, and I don’t feel comfortable asking the next pilots to fly you guys until we get confirmation.” He points at the agents next to him behind the counter: “Now, none of this is the agents’ fault. Please be kind to them. I’m the one who made this decision, not them, so any inconvenience you experience is my fault. Just please know that I don’t do this lightly, and I’m only doing it because I believe it’s in the best interests of everyone’s safety.” Now this is where the story gets crazy. The pilot puts the microphone down, grabs his suitcase, and all the people in the gate… Start clapping. I’m not joking, everyone starts clapping for the guy. 130 people who just had their travel plans ruined give an ovation to the guy who made the decision and delivered the message. All because he addressed them with decency and transparency, took ownership of the decision, made it clear that it was necessary, and explained why it was in everyone’s best interest. It’s honestly one of the best examples of strong communication—of strong leadership, for that matter—that I’ve seen in a long time. @Delta, whoever your Atlanta to Wichita pilot was this morning, he’s one of the good ones. Please tell him the delayed passengers of flight 1637 appreciate what he did.

@Mike_kim714 It does not concern me how far a Tour Pro hits their ball. In my game I need all the yardage I can get.

My current thoughts: -This affects just the top .1% of golfers. -what the USGA is proposing, it’s not going to roll it to the degree that those that are for the rollback wants. -The rollback ball affects some players a lot but barely affect others. It depends on ur launch conditions -This will make distance even more important and even more of an advantage -There’s not a lot of faith in the Usga with their ideas and the implementation of these ideas -Bifurcation is what’s needed to make serious changes but plenty of people find value in one rule set (which I find less important than others)
Adam Schupak@AdamSchupak

Based on reporting with several player directors on the Tour board and PAC, there still is little support on PGA Tour for the golf ball rollback. Hard to think Brian Rolapp will go on an island & back governing bodies on this one. Something’s gotta give: golfweek.usatoday.com/story/sports/g…

The main reason I posted this was because I wanted to tell you the particulars around what occurred this weekend. I was thrown quite the curve ball the day before during practice—I took a spill off my scooter (another story), spraining both wrists and breaking a rib. I ended up in the ER that night. At age 61, most would’ve likely called it quits, but I went back to my hotel room and decided to reset my mindset to simply showing up, pushing through the pain and just doing my best. And guess what? I won! The lesson: Conditions change. You adapt. You push through pain, you never give up. You show up, and do what you have to get the job done. My wife, my daughter and my friends all traveled to come watch me race. I had to find a way to win, and I certainly had to at least show up. 😎 I love and respect all of you, and my goal always is to inspire you. The only advice you will ever hear from me is from personal experience. I don't tell you to do anything I'm not doing myself. Have a great day!

Some hairy moments today on the track, but I pulled off the win and took the checkered flag.

Late getting home & traffic. No matter… Golf club fitting Friday, pick up groomed dogs, pick up kids, make pizza from scratch. Saturday, Deanna’s son comes to spend the night. As they play, I’m cleaning out my closet & a small remaining area of living room, then making a new ramen recipe for the kids. Sunday, brunch at country club then summer clothes shopping for kids at mall. Might be able to meet my buddy for a beer if there is time after the mall & dropping her son off…I dunno but I’m trying. Might squeeze the dog park in one of those days if it’s dry, and we might go fly my son’s RC plane in the afternoon Saturday. Not sure about Sunday dinner, but I’ll find something. This is considered an exciting weekend. It’s different from what I considered exciting years ago, but the feeling is close to the same. I’m good with that.

I’m speechless. I know our guys are really good, and I was hopeful but this was as high stakes as it gets. This will be military lore for 30+ years. You make movies about this stuff & people won’t believe it. WSJ & Washington Post also confirming. Welcome home, friends!

Fox News can confirm that the 2nd crew member of the downed F15E fighter jet has been rescued and he and the members of the rescue team that extracted him from behind enemy lines in Iran are all safely out of Iran. That according to two senior US officials and multiple well placed sources in the region. The Weapons Systems Officer ejected along with the pilot when their F15E Strike Eagle they were flying was struck Thursday night (early Friday local time) in southwest Iran.  The WSO used the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) training to evade capture, hiding on an elevated ridge after hiking away from the wreckage and putting out an emergency beacon.) US Special Operations rescue forces to include PJs (United States Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs) and many layers of elite rescue forces took part in the complex, layered mission to both find the crew member and also keep the Iranian forces who were hunting the American weapons system operator at bay. There are videos that have appeared from local eyewitnesses that show what appear to have been  injured and dead Iranian members of the IRGC and Basij who were looking for the downed American crew member. Fox has learned there was fighting on the ground but no Americans killed during the operation. “It was a very complex operation to retrieve the downed service member,” a well placed source briefed on the operation told me. Many different branches of the US military were involved in the rescue. Fox News can confirm the A10 Warthog that crashed Friday was involved in providing cover for the rescue teams searching for the pilot. That A10 crashed in Kuwait (first reported by ABC Friday) but the A10 pilot managed to eject safely and was rescued. There was destruction of aircraft which have sensitive equipment on board, I am told, all part of this complex CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) mission. The F15E was pretty much destroyed on impact. Two rescue helicopters were hit by enemy fire on  Friday and crew members onboard were injured by enemy fire but managed to make it out of Iran. There were a lot of elements to this rescue, I am told.

Deanna Evans, 46, passed away Tuesday after a lengthy battle w/ cancer. She leaves a son, 12. She wouldn’t want you to be sad. She’d want you to try that Michelin restaurant & order a Negroni. I loved her. She deserved more life & has taken most of my heart with her.

You can say Allahu Akbar as our superior military destroys your Islamic influence around the world, just like it did in a single night in Venezuela. Israel destroyed your proxy terror leadership with their own pagers. We destroyed your nuclear programs again and killed your top scientists. You did nothing, and you will continue to do nothing but cope and seethe on X.

@PhilMickelson @Notwokenow I don’t know about that Phil. I’m a registered democrat and am outraged at the fraud and abuse of our tax payer money. I am also a productive member of society. Of course I could just as easily be registered as independent if my state had open primaries.

We partnered with the My Brothers/Sisters Keeper Charitable Trust, founded by Jess Santamaria and his family more than 20 years ago, to help make the holidays a little easier for families in Belle Glade, Pahokee, and South Bay. Through a generous $50,000 donation, PBSO was able to purchase $150 Walmart gift cards for 300 families experiencing financial hardship. Our deputies worked closely with community partners to identify families in need, ensuring support reached those who would benefit most during the holiday season. Thankful for our partners and our community this holiday season.
