@SyzygyAltair I honestly felt like a super genius when I realized I could make it look like a black hole.

@SuperKimVT These early supermassive black holes are crazy. The universe just began and these hungry bois already grinded their way to the top of the leaderboard.

the things we see at redshifts of z ~ 11 and up are weird and surprising. the galaxies that formed that early are small, but brighter and formed faster than expected. and their supermassive black holes are way bigger than our current models can explain

Solar is far cheaper to scale however power density is ultimately tied to energy density. Unlocking many use cases requires the best energy density and nuclear is the densest energy source we have. This is a perfect use case for NASA. Push the boundaries to unlock net new capabilities that will eventually scale to defense and commercially viable use cases.

@bearcat_pilot @aaronburnett Technically there are craters near the poles of the moon that are in permanent darkness. Though these aren't really a "side" of the moon so they don't count as a dark side. I prefer the term shady side to refer to the night side of the moon.

@aaronburnett I know Aaron knows this. I mention this for those who are not space knowledgeable. Aaron says, "dark side of the moon". A day on the moon is about 28 Earth days long. There is no permanently dark side of the moon. On the Moon with two weeks of darkness, nuclear might be needed.

@Pinboard @sillypupkit The main requirement is that the escape tower must lift the capsule high enough for the parachutes to deploy properly which is already far beyond the blast radius of even the biggest failing rockets. Its size is purely determined by the weight it must carry.

@sillypupkit @warpey12 They are not; Orion's is massive because the performance requirement is to get away from exploding SRBs that can't be throttled down

@Pinboard The only situation the tower is used is when the rocket is malfunctioning and about to blow up. Turning off the engines does not always prevent a rocket explosion. Especially when the part that is causing the explosion is nowhere near the engines such as a rupturing fuel tank.

@warpey12 Yes, but you can turn off the motors on a liquid booster.

@Pinboard It is huge because the capsule it is supposed to lift away is huge. Also, liquid fuel rockets can make just as big, if not an even bigger boom than solid fuel rockets since liquid fuel is generally more energy dense than solid fuel.

Lots of people missing my point here. The Orion launch abort system is so huge and heavy because Artemis uses solid rocket boosters, and this is the only way to get far enough away from them fast enough. You can use a smaller escape rig on a rocket without those boosters

@MillenniumVT @ariasama_ It is very simple. I'd first draw a circle, and then draw the rest of you. Super easy!

@PsydereVT I can understand YouTube showing an ancient video from time to time for seemingly no reason, but to show this of all things tells me something is scuffed on their end.
