@thinkdefence The last SDR addressed this; invest in an always on manufacturing chain with flexible tooling where you are constantly producing a few thousand of the latest design rather than going all in mass producing one model for years or waiting for the jam.
English

@pegge49 Shows you how bad a hole the previous government left, the new government has increased the defence budget by £170bn this parliament and there is still a £28bn shortfall of unfunded defence pledges to find the money for.

They've now been in power for over 20 months, but have made no progress on MRSS, Dry Docks, MCM Motherships, more F35A/B orders, standoff weapons for F35Bs, etc...
Note: The SDR world salad was released 11 months ago tomorrow, but the accompanying DIP is still to be seen.

First clip showing Royal Marines using a German submarine because we have no SSNs available. Second clip showing us having to use a German frigate as NATO flagship because our only available escort at the time went to the Med.

The military says a photo showing a soldier in southern Lebanon smashing a statue of Jesus with a sledgehammer is authentic, and action is to be taken against those involved.
Following an initial review of the photo, the military says that "it was determined that the photograph depicts an IDF soldier operating in southern Lebanon."
"The IDF views the incident with great severity and emphasizes that the soldier's conduct is wholly inconsistent with the values expected of its troops," the military says.
The incident is being investigated by the Northern Command and is being handled "through the chain of command," the IDF says, adding that "appropriate measures will be taken against those involved in accordance with the findings."
The Northern Command will also assist the Christian community in restoring the statute to its place, the military adds.

@manniefabian Fake. When was that taken? Why just a photo? That isn't an IDF uniform. You can't see the face and the knee pads are wrong.

@BillBrockm88268 @Fahadnaimb At its base its the Italian Aeritalia G.222 developed in 1970 (C-27A) modernised in 1999 with the same cockpit as the C-130 and RR US turboprop engines for greater commonality (C-27J). Though neither version had much over 100 airframes produced.
English

@Fahadnaimb Lockheed was involved in this airplane early on, but then pulled out of any partnership if I recall. Uses the same engines as the C-130J.
English

Australia is retiring its entire fleet of 10 C-27J Spartans after just 11 years in service.
The RAAF announced it as part of the new 2026 National Defence Strategy... the planes will be replaced by commercial aircraft for moving people and cargo around the Pacific. No specific type picked yet, though something like an ATR 72 has been floated. Some of the tactical stuff will shift over to the bigger C-130J Hercules fleet, which Australia is expanding.
The Spartans had ongoing headaches with maintenance, spare parts, availability rates, and high costs (partly tied to the U.S. FMS process). They never quite hit the mark for battlefield airlift the way they were originally intended. On the flip side, they were really good at humanitarian work... landing on short or rough strips during bushfires and floods where bigger planes couldn’t go.
It’s basically a rethink: instead of one versatile but pricey platform, split the jobs between heavy military transports and cheaper civilian options for routine regional support. Makes sense on paper for saving money, but it’s a shame to see them go so soon.
English

@PaulSvL @TheDeadDistrict The Israeli I (A version) and the C version uses probe and drogue over boom as well.
English

@TheDeadDistrict In the B version the lift fan sits in the way of a boom refueling port. There is no room for it. Also, the Marines and Navy use buddy stores refuel systems on other fighters (like the F-18). Those are to small for a boom.

@Festivus96 @Osinttechnical US is the only country that's ever invoked Article 5 and requested NATO assistance with the Afghan war and the second Gulf War because it couldn't do it on its own. No other NATO country has ever requested US assistance as they have managed their conflicts without the US.
English

@Festivus96 @Osinttechnical Maybe if Trump could make his mind up between alternating daily between claiming no assistance was offered (it was never requested) and saying he's refusing offers of assistance because its no longer required. He needs better Bipolar medication.
English

@weijia Like his claims of dozens of fictitious tankers passing through the Strait.

NEWS President Trump tells me:
-No ground troops will be required to remove enriched uranium from Iran
-Iran has agreed to stop backing all proxy groups like Hezbollah and Hamas
-I asked if Iran has agreed to stop enriching uranium *forever.” He said, “They’ve agreed to everything.”

@vcdgf555 If we change our objective from winning to losing then when we are losing we can claim we are winning.

@Archer83Able After he previously tweeted that the US should get a cut of the fee's now he pretends like its the first time he's heard of it. LOL
English

@eagle_seek @ukraine_map Read the ceasefire, says the Strait will open under Iranian military control with transit fees to be charged and shared between Iran and Oman.
English

@ukraine_map Not a TACO. Opening the Strait is a major concession at no cost to the US. Negotiations will be based on both plans. No final outcomes have been agreed to.
English

@ragipsoylu Tucker Carlson is a Russian shrill, takes their money to parrot their talking points and since Russia wants the conflict to end its no surprise Tucker does as well.
English

@MCCCANM Might I recommend in honor of Hot Shots the callsign Dead Meat.
English

@GarethJennings3 If launching from the fleet outside the strait its just outside of their unrefuelled range, they would have to have mid-air refuelling like the earlier helicopters. The risk of which likely why the switched to ground refuelling.
English

Isn't this exact mission (requiring the speed and range of a fixed-wing coupled with the hovering flexibility of a rotary-wing) the whole point of the CV-22? 🤷♂️
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical
Remains of the USAF M/HC-130 Hercules transport aircraft destroyed by US forces before departing their forward base in Iran, used successfully to recover the downed F-15 aircrew. The aircraft had reportedly become stuck in the soft ground and were blown up to avoid capture.

@Hans4ever @NoContextBrits Because they have been in continuous use for a couple of thousand years.

@NoContextBrits Why are the roads so skinny in England? Every rural road looks like it can only fit one car at a time

@on_the_toilet_l @AuroraIntel The strike killed 8 construction workers.
English

@AuroraIntel That’s why we selected this target. Says “we will hit infrastructure”, without actually hitting anything that will cause unnecessary suffering or disruption to the people. Yet. It was a warning.
English

“Never to be used again” - it was under construction so it hadn’t been used.
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical
Trump, in a new post, confirms that the U.S. bombed Iran’s B-1 bridge in Karaj today, and threatens additional strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
English

@Abo_3bdulaziz_L @clashreport @Caucasuswar The bridge hadn't even been finished, it was still under construction.
English

@clashreport @Caucasuswar The damage is repairable, and I believe it was intentional. a warning that next time the strike will hit the bridge’s critical parts, making repair impossible and requiring costly reconstruction.

@DevonPianist @NoContextBrits Commercial dog food which included a lot of mechanically reclaimed meat unsuitable for human consumption. Lot of ground up bones meaning high calcium ratio.

@NoContextBrits I wonder why it was white back in the day? Maybe it would be today if folk didn’t have to pick it up?
