While Temu Treasurer 'Spin King' Chalmers brags that Labor has cut net migration by 45%, the real numbers show we're still at record highs! 40,400 net permanent + long-term arrivals in March alone, 486k over the year, and 1.16 million gross arrivals. Question is, how many of these daily 3,178 / 1,303 arrivals are the tradies, chefs, nurses and builders Australia desperately needs? Or is this just more demand on housing, infrastructure and services with no matching supply? Time to get serious about skilled migration that actually fixes shortages, not inflates them. For the 12 months leading up to March 2026, net permanent and long term arrivals totalled 486,300, driven by a record high of 1.16 million gross long term arrivals over the year, Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed. This comes after Jim Chalmers tried to sell us the lie that “Labor has reduced net migration by 45%” since taking office. The Total Gross Arrivals (Year to March 2026) was another record, a staggering 1.16 million, the highest 12 month to March gross arrivals on record. That is 1,303 people immigrating here per day. Yeah, read that again.
