It's a mistake to read today's Supreme Court decision as partisan or activist. Racially conscious policies meant to right past racial wrongs have always rested on shaky ground, legally and ethically. We should look for better ways to strengthen our democracy.

The strong and independent federal judiciary is the keystone of our Constitutional order. Court expansion (a polite way of saying court packing) would remove that keystone, dealing a fatal blow to the Madisonian Republic and liberal democracy itself. No. A hundred times no.
