@gggiants I remember that, Dave. I was even worried especially the minor league incident he had, where even Sabean read him the riot act. He turned into one of the greatest Giants ever and my all time favorite baseball player ever.

@MarkBeerman @raSF1983 @susanslusser Skenes has had a gradual drop in velocity over months. Gage was a sudden and acute drop in the same outing! Very critical distinction. Andrew Baggerly also thinks it was malpractice by Toni and coaching staff 🤷🏼♂️
English

@wcsingleton @raSF1983 @susanslusser Skenes' fastball has lost 6 mph and people are wondering if he's currently pitching hurt. Your application of absolutes is noble, yet very naive.
English

@MarkBeerman @raSF1983 @susanslusser Couldn’t disagree more. Signs were obvious of arm fatigue - left him in for 51 pitches. 51. If Paul Skenes was in exact same scenario and manager left him in, it’s a fireable offense.
English

@wcsingleton @raSF1983 @susanslusser If a person doesn't advocate for themselves, they cannot be surprised when someone will not advocate on their behalf. Paul Skenes could very well be playing hurt and the Pirates have yet to shutdown a pitcher of far greater importance.
English

@MarkBeerman @raSF1983 @susanslusser I guess we will have to agree to disagree. If I were manager, I would have seen a distress pitcher, with far too many pitches, in a non competitive game and taken him out earlier to try and avoid disaster..sounds like he needs Tommy John
English

@wcsingleton @raSF1983 @susanslusser No one smashed into Gage's head, though. He was hiding it due to his own warrior mindset. You do realize when the injury doesn't show on the surface, the athlete needs to say something. That is Self Accountability 101.
English

@MarkBeerman @raSF1983 @susanslusser Athletes are warriors. They will sacrifice their bodies. Coaches have a much broader responsibility and must protect players from themselves, especially when the performance compromise is so apparent. It’s like putting in an obviously concussed player in football
English

@wcsingleton @raSF1983 @susanslusser Gage has to be the one to speak up and say something isn't right with his body. The coaches will think he has arm fatigue or something isn't right with his delivery. It's not up to my employer to tell me I'm sick, because that creates another set of issues teams want to avoid.
English

@susanslusser @gotweetworms Which, imo, is precisely why coaches must be able to decipher obvious signs when the player might be compromised - to protect the player from themselves. These players are warriors and will almost always play through. Coaches have a bigger responsibility
English

@gotweetworms @wcsingleton I don’t know I feel like this isn’t uncommon when guys have injuries. They usually try to play through stuff.
English

@MarkBeerman @raSF1983 @susanslusser the issue I have is that it’s not an isolated incident and there are some significant “tells” that a major league coaching staff should be able to pick up on. I am even thinking in the TV broadcast I hope he’s not injured tomorrow after this outing….
English

@raSF1983 @wcsingleton @susanslusser It's tough to ID an issue that Gage is keeping to himself. His career might be dependent on showing self-sacrifice in the name of the team.
English

@susanslusser I don’t know. He left him in there for 50+ pitches, and he looked like he was looking for a lifeline. I would give benefit of doubt if this was a one-off, but this exact same thing happened with Keaton. A lot of red flags piling up about this manager and front office
English

@wcsingleton It wasn’t being gassed, it was pitching with a compromised elbow imo. He hadn’t told coaches about it. He just wanted to give them all he can knowing it was not going to be good news either way likely.
English

@PavlovicNBCS Alex, this is twice now a pitcher has looked obviously gassed and Tony has left them in, with the next day going on IL. It was obvious on the screen, even mentioned by Fleming, on both occasions with Keaton and now Gage. Is there any concern in the organization about this?
English

It is unfortunate that Webb has to respond for all of the stupid stuff this organization does day in and day out. Devers should man up and give a quote out more than once a year.
Shayna Rubin@ShaynaRubin
"There's a reason for what Tony did. I'm sure Rafi sees that...It was just a heat of the moment thing...I think he will take a step back and realize there was some thought behind it." What Giants say about Devers objecting to coming out of the game. sfchronicle.com/sports/giants/…
English

Craziest thing I was screaming for Rob Refsnyder but Buster Posey would probably get defensive and say I wanted Kyle Tucker

@SFGiantsMemer There are ZERO viable options on the bench. This is a roster issue in that situation. Options are Gilbert against a leftie (bad) or Bericoto/Kennedy (also bad)
English

If our fate depends on AA Jonah Cox that says something. I just don’t think Vitello has much to work with. Calling up Cox was desperation anyway.

The hot bat was benched two bases loaded ago.

@gggiants Genuinely puzzling. Player development has to be improved in this organization.
English

Eldridge vs Yamamoto? Sure.
Eldridge vs Ohtani? No problem.
Eldridge vs Ryne Nelson? Whoa whoa whoa, let’s slow down here
Dave@gggiants
Team's most promising hitting prospect in more than a decade and they're sitting him because they're facing Ryne Nelson
English

@GiantHotTakes Because he was a great Giant and had some really great moments. We are all human.
