I spoke to a ton of straight D-ticket voters that didn’t know anything about Kunce, Quade, or Gross. More voters knew about Prop 3 and Prop A than anything else. I think we had candidates that didn’t inspire turnout and could never win. (Warning: anecdata)

Gonna be a lot of hot takes on STL City’s turnout dropping from 66% in 2020 to 49% today and it’s ~almost~ like having the second most expensive Congressional race in HISTORY burnt people out!!!

@MrAzSports No. MLB needs promotion and relegation. It solves both the competitive and civic minded issues facing baseball.

The Yankees Payroll: $306,000,000 The Dodgers Payroll: $320,900,000 The MLB League Average: $150,000,000 The teams with payrolls twice the league average are facing off in the World Series. The MLB needs a salary cap & salary floor.

@jasonriverastl I had assumed. From what I’ve seen the entirety of that 90% increase you’ve cited is because the “Raise the Age” law went into effect in 2021. So 17 year olds are no longer treated as adults. I’ve seen no data to suggest that 17 yo crime has gone up or down. Just redefined.

Youth felonies are up over 90% since 2021, partly due to issues in SLPS, but mainly because of the Jones Administration’s failure to implement effective crime prevention strategies and support for at-risk youth. Blame shifting won’t work this time, Mayor. It’s everybody’s fault!

@EmacInSTL Do you think there was a way to redraw the map where Bush could have won? I’m not sure given what I’ve seen from the turnout. Even if maplewood, all of RH shrewsbury and Afton replaced the WG dangle, it doesn’t get to the 5.5 points.

The wealthiest and whitest parts of the district (Clayton, Olivette, Creve Coeur, Webster to an extent too) took this election. That deep blue along with heavy voter turnout there was the difference. Really sucks to have a plurality Black & working class district decided by the wealthiest & whitest part of the district.

On August 6, 2024, Wesley Bell defeated incumbent congresswoman Cori Bush in the Democratic primary for Missouri's 1st Congressional District. He won by 5.5% in one of the most expensive and contentious races in Missouri history. Here's the results by precinct and subdivisions:

@VirvusJ @CoriBush Posting to amplify. Citizens United has directly led to democratic losses.

@JosieGrillasSTL This should be the whole game for most Americans. Surprised no one (that I’ve seen) has directly pointed out that this was THE concern with the Citizens United decision. Accepting floods foreign govt cash is what Rs have wanted and worked for since 2010.

Today, BB72 was perfected by #STLBOA and is scheduled for final passage next week. This bill asks voters to amend the City Charter to remove the $500 municipal fine and fee limits to address non-owner occupied vacant and deteriorated properties. (A 🧵👇🏽)

Relatedly, St. Louis County may now have one of the highest Congresspersons per capita ratios out there. It has 3 of MO’s 10.

One of the things I was trying to highlight while running for CAO is everything the city is losing when it’s losing its population. At just over 250,000, today the city only accounts for only ~35% of MO-1. We are losing tax rev, community, et al AND political power.

@stlrainbow Imo, these maps are key to understanding what has and has not worked in StL. Overlay this with crime data, historical redlining, median income, life expectancy, etc., and of course race. Downtown is diff only in that we gave it to the county and refuse to make it a neighborhood

Now this authority is in federal judges’ hands who were not elected, lack field expertise (or even any experience whatsoever), and have no incentive nor concern to provide timely rulings. A single district judge could hold up a case for the entirety of an administration.

Rule making authority had been placed in the hands of experts in their fields that had to justify their decisions as reasonable in both interpretation of the law and the evidence/science available to administrative judges (also experts in the field).

We are experiencing a constitutional coup. The power grab of overturning the Chevron Doctrine is eye watering. Note the celebration on the right will say that this takes away power from unelected bureaucrats. Ask this: which federal judges were elected?
