The Washington Kurdish Institute (WKI) expresses its deepest sorrow at the passing of Salih Muslim, a remarkable Kurdish voice whose name became closely tied to the struggle, dignity, and political aspirations of the Kurds in Syria. For decades, Salih Muslim stood as one of the most prominent Kurdish political figures, known for his steadfast advocacy, public leadership, and enduring commitment to Kurdish rights and recognition. From his long involvement in the Kurdish movement to his leadership within the Democratic Union Party (PYD), he remained a figure whose voice carried weight far beyond his homeland. Today, @SenBlumenthal and I introduced the Save the Kurds Act. I believe that there is strong bipartisan support for the idea of protecting the Kurds in Syria and beyond because they have been such a reliable ally to the United States. The SDF – with a large Kurdish element – took the brunt of the fight to defeat ISIS in President Trump’s first term. I realize Syria is complicated culturally, ethnically and politically. However, attacking the Kurds greatly diminishes the United States’ standing and will hinder Syria’s ability to grow as a country. To those countries or groups who believe it is open season on the Kurds in Syria without consequence, you will be sadly mistaken. lgraham.senate.gov/public/index.c…
