New Zealand Football 🇳🇿
Due to the severe weather warnings in place for Kirikiriroa Hamilton on Sunday 12 April as a result of Cyclone Vaianu, Oceania Football Confederation, in consultation with New Zealand Football, local council, and the venue, has taken the decision to reschedule the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Oceania Qualifiers at FMG Stadium Waikato to Saturday 11 April. The decision has been made to ensure the safety of participants and fans attending the games. Due to the late notice of the change of date, the event will now be made free entry to all fans. Fans looking to attend do not need to book a ticket in advance, they can just arrive at the stadium. All tickets booked for the original match day will be refunded by Ticketek. Both matches will kick off at the same scheduled times, one day earlier: 12pm NZT – Papua New Guinea vs American Samoa 4pm NZT – Aotearoa New Zealand vs Fiji The final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Oceania Qualifiers will remain on Wednesday 15 April at North Harbour Stadium in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, kicking off at 7pm NZT. Lisa Jones, GM Competitions and International Events at New Zealand Football, said: “It is very rare to move games like this, but we completely support this decision by OFC. “From the advice we have been given, we strongly feel this is the best option to allow the fixtures to be played and to ensure the safety of everyone attending the matches. “With a considerable number of people looking to attend the games, this is a decision we wanted made as early as possible to ensure we didn’t have people travelling in potentially dangerous conditions. “We now look forward to two great semi-finals being played on Saturday ahead of next week’s final in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.”

Update on TROPICAL CYCLONE VAIANU 🌀 ⚠️ Tropical Cyclone Vaianu is continuing to move southwards and as of this morning it is roughly halfway between Fiji and New Zealand with winds of 95km/h near the centre. The latest tropical cyclone track map can be seen below, showing that the system is expected to make landfall on Sunday 🗺️ 🌀 The track map shows the forecast position of the system as it crosses the country but severe weather will happen well away from the system centre. Heavy rain, strong winds, and large waves will be affecting areas outside the blue area. What is a tropical cyclone track map? CYCLONE VAIANU ⚠️🌀🚨 Cyclone Vaianu is likely to move across the North Island on Sunday, 12 April. If it does, it will bring damaging, potentially life-threatening winds. However, uncertainty remains in the cyclone's exact track, so the locations of the most severe winds are not yet certain. As confidence in the track increases, parts of this Watch will be upgraded to Orange or possibly Red Warnings. 🟠🔴 Vaianu will also bring heavy rain, with Heavy Rain Watches and/or Warnings likely to be issued on Thursday for some areas. High chance of upgrading to a Warning. 📢 More information: metservice.com/warnings @NZcivildefence

Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila became a Category 5 system overnight, producing wind gusts up to 295 km/h 🌬️ and waves exceeding 11.5 metres. 🌊 It is likely one of the strongest systems ever to develop in the Solomon Sea. The well formed eye, about 44 km in diameter, can be clearly seen on infrared satellite, creating the stadium effect. 📍 Maila is expected to track towards #PapuaNewGuinea, then the Far North #Qld coast over the coming days. #CycloneMaila #TCMaila

Latest Euro model run continues to show #CycloneVaianu as an asymmetrical hybrid warm core subtropical specimen over the upper North Island on Sunday. You don't often see this type of structure on a storm this far south. It's core at 500 hPa (5.5km asl) projected to be -2°c, same as Cyclone Gabrielle 13th Feb 2023 near the same latitude.

Severe tropical cyclones Maila (Solomon Sea) and Vaianu (300km west of Fiji) are imbedded within the South Pacific Convergence Zone and are connecting moisture to a low pressure trough meandering to the west of the upper North Island today. Plenty of rain, heavy at times over the next 24 hours. Imagery: Last 48 hours of atmospheric moisture flow.

Easter easterlies. High pressure to the south will send easterlies with only isolated showers from Good Friday to Easter Sunday across the upper North Island. On Monday a low-pressure trough will develop from the tropics to the Tasman, turning the wind flow to a showery strong northeasterly. This could turn to periods of rain for Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Meanwhile in the tropics, tropical low 90P is being monitored over the northern Coral Sea along with a disturbance NE of Vanuatu. At this stage it’s too early to know what strength and direction the systems will take after Easter. More to come on this subject as the systems develop.
