Love Has Always Been Transactional, It’s Just A Bit Different These Days — Singer Omawunmi Nigerian singer Omawunmi has shared her views on how relationships have evolved over time. On the idea that modern relationships are more transactional, she dismissed the claim and explained that exchanges have always existed in relationships, though they appear differently today. Speaking during a podcast section with Pulse, the singer stated: “I disagree. Because we women have had long throat since the beginning of time, you know, but our transactional was different because if it was all those like secondary school to uni days of holding hands or crushing on a girl or a boy, you know, you just stay there, buy them ice cream and popcorn. But now, it’s now iPhone.” Explaining further, she said people often misunderstand the word “transactional,” stressing that mutual effort is a normal part of relationships. “There’s always been some level of transaction. So when you use the word transactional, you make it like, it’s so strong a word. If you are feeling somebody, like I always encourage that if I’m with a man that showers gifts on me and, you know, I always try to match that energy.” She also addressed public perception, noting that women are often seen as only receiving, even when they reciprocate in different ways. “But most people don’t see the women matching the energy. They just see the women only collecting. So men, they go overboard sometimes, just especially because some men tend to like shiny objects. And shiny objects, not the only one person they like. So everybody is struggling to get that shiny object.” She concluded by highlighting consistency as a major issue in modern relationships, saying effort often fades after initial attraction. “And then when you finish getting it, then all the paparazzi that you were doing before, you will have to tone it down. No, now. You have to keep up the energy.”

According to her, “I’m minding my business doing my email, and I just get this scroll of a message saying everything he’s upset about me, my body was already becoming hot at some point, I can’t even read because I’m so angry.” Temi expressed frustration that she had repeatedly asked if he was upset, saying, “I’ve asked this guy 10 times, are you upset with me?” She noted that although she finds it “a bit childish” to avoid face-to-face conversation in such situations, she acknowledged that writing may be his preferred way of expressing himself. I think if I communicate it at that time, it will sound too harsh.” He added that writing allows him to better organize his thoughts, stating, “when I want to really express myself, I can do it via typing better than speaking about it because then I can read it again to see what I’ve omitted.”
