The point isn’t that you or I don’t understand military strategy, it’s that Trump doesn’t care about it.

Yet somehow the narrative persists: America is doing Germany a favour. That Europe is the dependent, the beneficiary, the so-called “freeloader.” It’s a convenient story. It’s also strategically backwards. Because the reality is simple: those bases are not acts of generosity. They are instruments of power. And they exist in Germany not for Germany’s benefit—but for America’s ability to operate far beyond its own borders. Take them away, and the question isn’t what Germany loses. It’s how much the United States does.

They're bringing back 5,000 people out of the 36,000 stationed in Germany... that's 14% of the force... relax. It's called a restructuring. There are about 68,000 total stationed in Europe. Global reach will be fine. You people screech when we deploy troops and now you screech when we want to bring some back.
