The Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat. “Who will help me plant this?” she asked. “Not I,” said the dog. “Not I,” said the cat. “Not I,” said the duck. “Cool,” said the Little Red Hen. So she opened her laptop. She asked the machine how to plant wheat, how to track soil moisture, how to automate reminders, how to make a tiny dashboard, how to build a crude little farming app with one button labeled MAKE BREAD HAPPEN. The machine gave her code. Some of it worked. Some of it hallucinated a tractor. Some of it imported three libraries she did not need. But the Little Red Hen kept poking at it until the wheat was planted. And it grew. When the wheat was tall and golden, she asked, “Who will help me harvest this?” “Not I,” said the dog. “I’m more of a strategy guy.” “Not I,” said the cat. “I don’t want to touch anything until the brand is clearer.” “Not I,” said the duck. “Is there a token?” “Cool,” said the Little Red Hen. So she vibe coded a harvest bot. It was ugly. It had six tabs, one broken button, and a loading spinner that never stopped spinning. But it cut the wheat. When the wheat needed grinding, she asked, “Who will help me grind this into flour?” “Not I,” said the dog. “The UI needs work.” “Not I,” said the cat. “I would have used a different stack.” “Not I,” said the duck. “This feels too centralized.” “Cool,” said the Little Red Hen. So she asked the AI for a mill. The AI gave her a recipe for pancakes, a Rust implementation of a grain scheduler, and a strangely confident explanation of medieval taxation. The Little Red Hen sighed, copied the useful parts, deleted the nonsense, and got the mill working. Now she had flour. When it was time to bake, she asked, “Who will help me bake the bread?” “Not I,” said the dog. “I’m worried about liability.” “Not I,” said the cat. “Bread is saturated.” “Not I,” said the duck. “You should build community first.” “Cool,” said the Little Red Hen. So she vibe coded an oven controller. It over-engineered the crust. It named every loaf. It pushed a failed deploy at midnight. It briefly tried to add a leaderboard. But eventually, the bread came out warm and golden and real. The smell filled the whole barnyard. The dog came running. The cat came stretching. The duck came waddling. “Who will help me eat this bread?” asked the Little Red Hen. “I will,” said the dog. “But I have notes.” “I will,” said the cat. “The texture is kind of derivative.” “I will,” said the duck. “Honestly, this would be better if it had been made by hand.” The Little Red Hen looked at them. “You did not help plant it. You did not help harvest it. You did not help grind it. You did not help bake it.” “Yes,” said the dog, already chewing. “But the rollout was confusing.” “Yes,” said the cat, taking another slice. “And the landing page lacks soul.” “Yes,” said the duck, crumbs falling from his beak. “Also, AI bread is not real bread.” The Little Red Hen watched them eat every last piece. Then she opened her laptop again. “Who will help me build the bakery?” she asked. The dog, the cat, and the duck looked away. “Not I,” they said. “Cool,” said the Little Red Hen. And she shipped version two.
