In the 1960s when I was 7, I used to get the bus to school. In the 1970s, we used to hitch hike if we didn't have bus fare money. In the early 80s, I worked 3 evenings in a pub in Croydon and walked home. In the 1990s, I travelled to all Crystal Palace away games. I never felt unsafe. People I came across were kind, friendly and helpful. Today, I wouldn't go to the theatre in Ipswich on my own at night. I wouldn't go to London at all. We used to feel happy and safe. Life was good. What happened?
