"Iranian frigate hit at [the Caspian Sea] port in Bandar Anzali. Interestingly it had returned from Russia just 24 hours ago. It's suspected it brought back drine-related tech from Russia."

15 years ago, the Iranian regime stepped in to crush the Syrian uprising. 1 million dead and 5 million refugees later, the regime itself is now fighting for survival.

@APHClarkson In a way, he is. Oil prices which he watches closely reflect those operational details. He also probably knows he'll be the new Jimmy Carter if oil prices keep going up.

There will be more strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure before this is over. It is doubtful whether Trump is fully aware of operational details.

Again, this is a Politician manufactured out of Iraq war anger, repackaged every election cycle. No war → Assad normalization → failed presidential bid → right-wing pivot → DNI for a new war. Not a trajectory. A pattern. x.com/i/status/20343…

Iran's record: Important read to understand why Syrians react badly when some try to guilt them for rejoicing that the Iranian regime is being decimated.
Holly Dagres@hdagres

In my first essay for @newlinesmag, I argue Tehran helped the Assad regime violently crush protests starting in 2011—then used those tactics on Iranians in January. If the IRI survives the war, it'll unleash a level of repression not seen before.newlinesmag.com/argument/what-…

GCC states were never truly secure but only buffered. Iran built its entire doctrine around threatening Gulf energy flows. Defense pacts and massive spending since 1979 didn’t eliminate that reality, they masked it. This war didn’t create that vulnerability, it revealed it.
S. Rifai@THE_47th

No matter how this war ends, the next 5–10 years will be about the GCC diversifying their oil, gas, and export routes away from the Gulf and the Red Sea. Haifa’s port is well positioned, but can’t be relied on alone. Beirut & Latakia are ideal candidates on paper, but stability remains the question.

Larijani was the polished and smooth representative that diplomats and officials enjoyed talking to thinking it made a difference . Whereas talking to typical regime officials starting with Khamenei Sr was a chore; long lectures, grievances, and little that could be written as news in a report

The first step to use force to open the Hormuz strait: eliminate the anti-ship missile silos, their radars and command centers. That's the easy part, the hard part is finding the mobile ones in advance and eliminating them. Iran has had 40 years to prep for this.
U.S. Central Command@CENTCOM

Hours ago, U.S. forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles in these sites posed a risk to international shipping in the strait.

@MelekTawuse The Vatican's influence is not in what it says publicly, but how it wields it in private behind closed doors.

@weddady Church commentary on say AI or bioengineering is genuinely fascinating because it’s so counter cultural. As a member, I do wish it would bring the same depth of analysis to contemporary conflicts instead of, for example, all but telling religious Ukrainians to surrender.

This is a very common perception. However, the Vatican/Catholic church does have influence and its voice still matters even in a de-christianized West. More so in the Middle East.
Melek Tawuse@MelekTawuse

The Church’s appeals during international crises always fall a little flat—in large part I think because it’s been out of the secular governance business for a long time. It lost some insight into that realm. Nowadays, its geopolitical pronouncements could come from any NGO.
