Great picture here of Wally Liaw (smuggled GPUs to china, just arrested for doing so) pouring water into an ice sculpture that says "supermicro"

@edzitron I mean I assume it's a blue mixed alcoholic drink (vodka?) being poured down the Ice Luge to chill it for drinking at the party.

Iran is clearly losing this war - it is simply outmatched in every way by US (and Israeli) firepower. But Iran doesn't have to win. All it needs to do is not lose. How does Iran achieve that? 1) Stay in power. No regime change. 2) Keep gas prices high (by maintaining the ability to attack Persian Gulf shipping and regional oil infrastructure). Iran doesn't even need to continue attacking Israel or launch a wave of domestic terrorists in the US. If it focuses its greatly limited production of drones (including drone boats) in the Strait of Hormuz, this could go on for a while. Drone production, by the way, is far harder to destroy than missile production.

@PincherMartin8 @DastDn Yeah, Iran is playing a big game of "we both drink the poison, but you die faster"

Hot take, but 2010-2012 was basically a 2000's hangover. The 2010's culturally and technologically didn't kick off until about 2013. It was commonplace to see people still using flip phones and watching on CRT's in 2012. Landlines just started being phased out and frutiger aero was still everywhere. Not to mention the dark, gritty urban nature of the 2000's was still lingering.

@getfiscal Your followers should know that (as of Dec. 15, 2025 new law) any person with ANY Canadian ancestry is now a Canadian citizen. You can get it confirmed easily then just move to Canada. 🇨🇦 Tons of Americans have a Great-G-G-G Canadian ancestor.

Today’s media cheer against the US, overstate enemy abilities, understate ours and paint a picture that the US is losing, while we’re winning. It’s more true today as they cheer against Trump in Iran. Within 10 days weeks of this 2001 NYT doozy saying our military efforts in Afghanistan were bogged down, the key city of Mazar e Sharif fell to the US and our ally the Northern Alliance, and Kabul fell days later. This story was written a mere three weeks after our counter-offensive against Al Qaeda began. But that didn’t stop the NYT from saying we were already in a quagmire. The media are doing the same thing today in Iran. From a military point of view, Operation Epic Fury has been a huge success. We don’t know yet about who will run Iran, but the press will always see America’s cup as 1/10th empty. If today’s press covered WW II, they would have written mostly about civilian casualties, friendly fire, and failed missions, downplaying the overwhelming allied victories against the Nazis.

my life is a living hell. every minute is torture
What the hell kind of shoes is a 28 year old man supposed to wear. Sneakers/skate shoes feel like that "fellow kids" meme. I'm not wearing boots every day, I'm not a construction worker or a folk singer. Don't get me started on dress shoes. Might as well just buy my funeral tux
