@2ndRoi @JacobHorsfall_ @JefferyGol37573 a team’s cumulative xG should approach their real number of goals scored over a long enough time period (due to LLN), and I see a lot of people saying that this isn’t how xG works and I’m struggling to understand why. might just have to do some more reading on the subject myself.

@2ndRoi @JacobHorsfall_ @JefferyGol37573 Appreciate the explanation. I agree that there’s no point in talking about “deserving” anything based on over- or underperforming relative to xG. I’d just imagine that if the model were reliable (1/2)

@ChatzSol @fc_mossman Law of large numbers. If you perform the trial enough times, the number of positive outcomes (“the thing happens”) will converge to 1 in 100

@fc_mossman That's not how probability works, if something has a 1% probability it will not happen 1 in 100 times there's simply a 1% chance on each occasion

@hughespaul09 @ReeceLSport But why though? If it works within an individual fixture, and a season is composed simply of a bunch of individual fixtures, why should the model not work on an entire season? Genuine question from my side

@ReeceLSport It’s the extrapolation that gets me. There is a place for it within the confines of a single fixture. Trying to scale it across an entire season is just so flawed.

@JacobHorsfall_ @JefferyGol37573 Would love for you to elaborate on this. What do you mean by baseline here? And why is it wrong to look at a team’s cumulative xG over the course of a season as was done in the original tweet?

@JefferyGol37573 It’s a baseline. High XG doesn’t = great performance. I prefer to use it more for players because it tells you how often they get high value opportunities (can consider that when looking at a players movement)

just dawned on me that the title "Resident Evil" means "an evil that resides" (the games mostly take place inside buildings), not a dumb way to say "evil resident"

@Sephanade A lot of really talented actors on this list, but if we’re talking about VERSATILITY it has to be Samuel Jackson or Jamie Foxx

@callanable @SparrowAdorer It’s also the constant use of hollow, formulaic phrases with no real insight «Not a flavor idea. Not a marketing construct. A real, tangible product identity (…)» is not technically wrong, but no human would ever write this stuff because it has nothing of significance to say

@theericklouis Back when I was like 10-11, I accidentally came across the story of Jesse Washington on Wikipedia and I remember crying for what felt like 2 weeks straight. Still get sick thinking about it to this day
