🚨 Breaking: The proposed Desert Rainbow Solar Project in Goodyear could become one of the largest solar developments in Arizona by footprint if fully approved and built out. 🔗 bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2… According to the Phoenix Business Journal, developers are seeking approval for a 5,011-acre site in Rainbow Valley that would generate approximately 550 megawatts of solar power, paired with another 550 megawatts of battery energy storage. The developer, ACE DevCo NC LLC, is tied to AES Corporation through AES Clean Energy. Project documents reportedly cite Rainbow Valley’s flat terrain, distance from existing development, and proximity to major transmission infrastructure as key reasons for selecting the site. The power would connect into SRP’s Pinal West to Jojoba 500-kV transmission line system. The project still requires city approvals, including a special use permit, before heading to Planning & Zoning and eventually the Goodyear City Council. Notably, Goodyear is already reviewing and updating regulations around battery energy storage systems (BESS) and data centers as proposals increasingly pair large-scale energy generation, storage, and high-demand tech infrastructure together. If approved, construction is expected to begin in 2029, with the facility projected to operate for about 40 years before decommissioning. @caseymurph1 @JasonBassler1
