Luke Ponczka hit a 3 run homer in the 7th to get game to extra innings. Homer in 11th won it. Falcons might hit 50 homers this year.

Catawba has been using everyone’s favorite 22-year-old lefty Casey Gouge (West Rowan) a lot in multiple roles. 5 starts. 4 relief outings. He’s done well. 1-0. 2.70 ERA. Hasn’t gotten a stat very often, but he’s pitched in a lot of wins.

Matthew Connolly (West Rowan) batting .250 but he’s been destructive for Catawba. His 20 hits include 6 homers and 5 doubles. 24 RBIs in 21 games.

Steven Smith (West Rowan) is doing great for App State. 3 homers, 15 RBIs, .346. Pitching he’s 1-0 with 1 save as a reliever and has been unhittable. Someone should probably draft him. They haven’t found a level yet where they can contain him.

It was great talking to West Rowan 2-way star Maddox Moore about his commit to UNC Pembroke. Story soon. He’s planning to play Legion for first time, which is big. Outstanding leadoff type and center fielder and really tough lefty pitcher. It’s like getting 2 good players.
