@CityHallTories This incident happened at 4am. Officers were on scene within two minutes of being alerted. They arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage. He remains in custody.

The desecration of Sir Winston Churchill’s statue, opposite one of the most heavily policed sites in the country and a stone’s throw from the Met’s HQ, is utterly appalling. @Councillorsuzie has asked the Mayor to provide a full explanation of how this was allowed to happen, and we will be pushing on answers from the Met on the wider security implications. As London’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Sadiq Khan must provide the Met with the full resources it needs to protect this important site of national significance.
