@nickimoraa A couple asked me to switch seats on a long haul flight. I agreed & there was nobody else in the row of the new seat. I'd 3 free seats and they were in a row with a stranger. I considered checking if they wanted to switch back, but decided it was my reward for being so agreeable!

Flight attendant comes up to me before takeoff, very gentle voice: “Hi, would you be willing to switch seats to help a family sit together?” I already know. I just know. Me: “What seat is it?” Her: “It’s a middle seat toward the back.” I said, “I’m happy to help if it’s the same type of seat or better.” She smiles that tight customer-service smile and goes, “It would really mean a lot to them.” I said, “It already means a lot to me. That’s why I paid for it.” She just nodded and walked away. Respectfully, too. Because what argument is left?

Had a lovely weekend perusing #Census1926 and found out that my great great grandfather was a Trade Union Clerk for ITGWU. Fascinated to learn more about his role.

@fallon_donal My great grandparents lost 4 children under the age of 4. They included their names but they were crossed out. The living 2 year old here would also die soon after the census. I can't imagine enduring so much loss.

The 1926 census is now online. Fascinating. My own family entry comes from Cornmarket in the Liberties. Looking at them and their neighbours the horror of the First World War is clear. So many men from 1911 returns are gone. Ellen lists herself as married, it’s amended to widow.

@Iovelanguge I will never understand the logic that if a server serves me a $600 bottle of wine I am expected to tip over $120, but if that same server serves me a $60 bottle of wine (same effort from the server) I get away with roughly $12+ tip.

Expecting over £200 on top of your wages to wait on a table of 4 is absolutely absurd. American tipping culture is genuinely so scary, that £200 is literally a full days pay for most people. Americans need to grow up
