lol a lot of euros in the mentions informing me that marriage means very little and is just a signature, but I feel like if you spend your whole life avoiding a signature then maybe it’s not just a signature lol

I've mentioned before that a guy co-worker would fix & lift things for me. In exchange I did networking & event planning that he disliked. We're a social species. We're supposed to help each other. Same thing with randos: I've had random men lift stuff for me, & I've listened to random dudes' problems that they needed to unload on someone. It's not embarrassing to help & be helped. I like my nurturing side & I like men's muscles!

I read somewhere that "When you choose a life partner you're choosing your eating companion for about 20,000 meals, your travel companion for about 70 vacations, your retirement friend, career therapist, & someone whose day you'll hear about 18,000 times" and I really can't stress this enough.

I'll try to say this as gently as I can: If sunlight, exercise, and losing weight fixed most of your problems, you didn't actually have real problems in the first place. Lots of gym rats and health baddies like to pretend that health is the answer to life, but many of the world's brilliant minds and revolutionary thinkers were crippled, obese, had health problems, ate like shit, drank like a fish, and stayed awake all night.

@cybelethebest I don’t love how she brought the TFR+ “make your man stay” elements into it bc women’s health is worth investing in for its own sake—but people do seem to be annoyed by women attempting to maximize their looks and health post-menopause and I don’t get it

@cybelethebest One could be tempted to think it was a stage of life intended by God for a purpose. But then I tried life with hormones and I don't care if there's a purpose to it, the purpose sucks, and I got stuff to do.

Some people seem to find this objectionable in a unique way compared to any other anti-aging efforts, I’m not sure I see the difference compared to any other efforts to mitigate or reverse age-related physical decline? I think there are very few women who would be trying to have children in their 50s or later, mostly the concern here is quality of life.
𝖦𝗋𝗂𝗆𝖾𝗌 ⏳@Grimezsz

I just learned up to 84% of women lose sexual function after menopause without intervention. All of this is related to the fertility crisis because I see a lot of women not wanting to commit to a man who has a high chance of ditching them after they've given him her life/ body, and surely almost nobody realizes that not treating menopause must be a huge reason marriages fail later in life. Interesting stuff.

@pachabelcanon Not sure! We didn’t get into the transatlantic slavery history at all. My history program neglected that badly. I did get to take one critical theory on transatlantic coverage of slavery, and my impression was that it was very divided. But yes.

@whitehousebride Wasn't it also the case that a lot of early moral opposition to colonial abuses in the New World came from priests?

@ParanoidDigest @whitehousebride slavers had to try to reach for verses to justify their position due to the extent to which they were attacked from the Christian perspective in the early days of the US when slavery was attacked from a secular humanist angle did not have to reach for a biblical justification.

A) This goes hard as fuck. B) It sounds radical in today’s drinking culture because Prohibition permanently decreased what amounts of drinking are normalized. Husbands were drinking enough to squander their entire contribution to the household income and came home drunkenly attacking and assaulting their wives. Pre-Prohibition drinking culture was a real feminist issue.

i think if many of the people responding negatively to this were painted as America's Fattest Whore and blamed for taking down democrary prior to turning 23 they would not have handled it nearly as well as monica has!

I’ve disagreed with many (many) of Lindsey Graham’s choices and beliefs, but he was also — as one of the house managers on the ‘98 impeachment — the one who worked tirelessly to prove there was a smear campaign against me from inside the WH. RIP.

Men have basically three outcomes: terminally single monk-like being enlightened by his chastity; sensitive young victimweight lad being tortured by his BPD girlfriend in Christlike misery; and happily married, stable adult man. Lesbians can, somehow, simultaneously, experience all three of these states.

People can be a total catch and find another total catch but I don’t think that ensures the best relationship. These perfectionist types are often bad at compromise, forgiveness and seeing a different perspective.

I dislike the term "high-brow misinformation". It's just a euphemism for "left-wing misinformation" used when the speaker wants to avoid offending them. If the term were actually about the amount of effort and research that goes into the misinformation, then the people who publish detailed studies showing that vaccines cause autism would be spreading "high-brow misinformation", and the people on twitter who go around claiming with no source whatsoever that Elon could have solved world hunger for $6 billion are spreading "low-brow misinformation". But nobody actually uses the term this way.
