The Polynesian Cultural Center is more than just an educational theme park—it’s an immersive living museum where international students from all over the Pacific share the music, history, and culture of the Polynesian islands. Unlike most tourist destinations, its goal isn’t to turn a profit, but to fund a debt-free education for the students of one of the most diverse universities in the United States, Brigham Young University—Hawaii. 70% of the student body at BYU—Hawaii are international students from over 65 different countries. So here's the deal. If they agree to work 19 hours a week on campus, such as at the Polynesian Cultural Center, the proceeds of the center and the Church cover the rest of the cost of their expensive education so they can return home to advance their careers and strengthen their local communities. Some of us might feel apprehensive about openly expressing our faith in Jesus Christ. I have been impressed by the example of Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Al van der Beek, and Paul Anderson of the Piano Guys sharing their faith without reservation. They are ambassadors to the world, with more than 7 million subscribers to their YouTube channel. I hope we all will be courageous in sharing the truth and standing for righteousness.

Jesus Christ turns our weaknesses into strengths. Ether 12:27 reminds us that “if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. … Then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”

In modern language, we think the word “perfect” means “to perform without errors.” Thankfully, this is not what it means in the scriptural context. Thanks to God’s grace, we can be perfected in Him.

As we enter in this new year, let us prepare for an Easter celebration of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ culminating in His Resurrection—the most glorious event in history—and contemplate our own future resurrection. How grateful I am for the profound meaning of the universal Resurrection, which is made possible by the great plan and the boundless love of God the Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. #GreaterLove

I send you my personal wish for a glorious Christmas season. To feel the joy that the true spirit of Christmas brings, we celebrate our Heavenly Father’s perfect gift – His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, who came to this earth as a baby boy “lying in a manger.” As we remember Him, we will be encouraged to love as He loved. We will feel the spirit of His birth and His mission as we follow His commandment to “Love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” (John 13:34) As His witness, I testify that the baby boy born in Bethlehem is Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah. I express my love to you, along with my heartfelt desire that we all have a joyful Christmas season.

So hold on to the commandments of God and your sacred covenants and keep climbing. And if you need to sit down for a moment or a time, if you only have strength for this hour or this day, then rest and go to your knees—physically or in your mind—and pray to your Heavenly Father. Angels have been promised to bear you up. They will. You can and you will make it. Never give up. Keep climbing, even if your ascension is an inch at a time, you will make it. God loves you.
