So, I have been sitting on this for a while now. But with the trade deadline rapidly approaching, it seems like a good time to roll it out. Here's the FSL & PCL Hawkeye Leaderboard that I developed for our MiLB team at @ProspectsLive. will-hoefer.shinyapps.io/FSLPCLHawkeye/

103 MPH in HIGH SCHOOL? Jack Bauer explains to me how he threw 103 mph in High School. 😳 Now, a Freshman Left Handed Pitcher for Mississippi State.

@sunshinevvn 6.27 fWAR per 162 with the Sox, Lindor with 6.33 fWAR per 162 over his entire career. I’d just have Nomar at 3B and Lindor at SS personally lol

@JoeDoyleMiLB Lmao Justin Wrobleski just pitched in Game 7 of the World Series that’s an elite find past Day 1, let alone the 11th round

The responses to this tweet just go to show how little the general public knows about scouting and how difficult it is. Or even its purpose. Dustin May and Connor Wong were both third round picks. 34 percent of third round picks since 1995 have even made the big leagues at all. May took fifth in Rookie of the Year voting. Wong helped the Dodgers acquire a 27-year-old Mookie freaking Betts. Justin Wrobleski was drafted in the 11th round. Some studies report players drafted after round ten have roughly an 11 percent chance of ever becoming big leaguers. This isn’t a tweet about glazing Dodgers prospects/players… it’s a tweet about recognizing a scout who has found VALUE in parts of the draft that can be so difficult to navigate.

Tons of promotions in the scouting world, but one especially stands out. The Los Angeles Dodgers promoted National Crosschecker Rob St. Julien to Assistant Director… responsible for the likes of Dustin May, Connor Wong and Justin Wrobleski among others.

@sunshinevvn Look at the Inside Edge catch probability conversion rates from the olden days, we’ve always been heavy

@JoeDoyleMiLB Can’t believe Jace LaViolette is mocked at 1-1. Also, can’t believe Jace LaViolette isn’t mocked at 1-1.

@sunshinevvn OK I like that the wall height seems to be dynamic in terms of difficulty, and with that in mind I don't see foul line to wall distance being that big of a factor if surviving the catch is that big of a contributor to catch probability. Thanks for the extra context!

@whoeferbaseball if i get rid of the wall factors the play went up to like 94% so we’re talking about a ~10% fall off due to the ending conditions. warmonger says he had a -8.3 ft jump (compared to average) so i could rerun it with his distance 8 ft back and see what the effect is

@sunshinevvn But this is probably something we can quantify in the finish of the play, right? I think the finish is more often that not an edge case in probability, but it is the difficult aspect here. Hard to see that distance covered even by a good jump not incurring the wrath of that net.

@whoeferbaseball i think that this is a case of a play that starts easy (which all the model cares about) but became difficult due to a bad jump, and then became really really difficult because his only chance was moving full speed at the net

RHP Ryan Hall (North Gwinnett HS (GA), 2025) threw six scoreless against a talented Parkview lineup on Wednesday. Fastball and above avg. slider got plenty of whiffs, uber athletic w/ a 7 defensive play to end the first. Georgia Tech commit. FB: 90-94 T95 SL: 82-86 CH: 83-85

CF Ty Peeples (Franklin County HS (GA), 2025) was on the barrel often tonight. Very good looking left handed swing with impact, actions and arm in the outfield flash. Committed to the University of Georgia

CF Cole Johnson (Oconee County HS (GA), 2025) lifts one out for his 2nd home run of the day. Picturesque swing that can really carry the ball when he finds the barrel, committed to the University of Georgia.
