Day 032, orbit 0498 – Here is the very first picture I took from the Cupola… just like when you’re flying on a plane, clouds ⚪  are at times the only thing as far as the eye can see – the biggest difference being that we’re about 390 km higher than a commercial jetliner! The blue 🔵  tone of the image comes from the atmosphere, which scatters the shorter wavelengths of light, such as blue and violet. You see the same effect from a plane, though more faintly. Near the top of the picture, along the curve of the Earth, you can clearly see how thin the atmosphere is, fading from a pale to a deeper blue before disappearing into the black of space ⚫… Second pic is my very first picture from Dragon, with heart-shaped clouds, which I took as a message to spread good vibes. More pictures soon! 🌍 📷 Credit: NASA/ESA – S. Adenot (1), NASA/ESA/SpaceX (2) #εpsilon

.@Astro_ChrisW and I are getting pumped for next week’s spacewalk, the first of Expedition 74! Our main task will be to complete the install of an “IROSA mod kit,” which will serve as the mounting plate to attach a @Space_Station Roll-Out Solar Array (IROSA). This new, compact, roll-out solar array will augment the aging ISS arrays by providing a significant boost to the existing power system. Here we are practicing building the mod kit inside the LAB… Always useful since we will lose a lot of our dexterity once we are in the pressurized volume of our spacesuits!

Another day on the @Space_Station brings the departure of another vehicle, the last of our 3 cargo vehicles on the US Operating Segment (USOS). Today we bid farewell to the @northropgrumman Cygnus NG-23 cargo vehicle, named after our late colleague NASA astronaut Willie McCool. As I watched Cygnus disappear over the horizon, I took a moment to reflect and honor Willie, and all of the STS-107 crew, who honorably gave their lives in their effort to advance science and space exploration. Godspeed S.S. William “Willie” C. McCool, thank you for your service! 📷 — The Northrop Grumman Cygnus NG-23 cargo vehicle sits grappled by the @csa_asc Canadarm, awaiting its release. This cargo vehicle delivered valuable scientific experiments, hardware and supplies for all of us on the ISS. At the end of its mission, it is now full of trash which will burn up in the atmosphere.

Some of our weekend time on @Space_Station is spent doing normal Earthly things like haircuts, but of course with the added excitement for the vacuum of space…a literal vacuum attached to our hair clippers to catch all of the cuttings! I brushed off my space haircutting skills and put them to the test on @astro_hathaway, but don’t worry, I would never actually let him touch my space hair, I love it too much!

Day 023, orbit 0355 – Yes, you can be a woman, and at the same time, love high tech / high speed activities, and love being a woman and wearing high heels. Today is the day to celebrate women. If there is one thing I want to share with other women on this occasion, it’s this: dare to embrace all parts of your personality and dare to chase your dreams – even if some people around you have doubts! Happy women’s day! 👠 😉 📷 Credit : Lionel Monnier, photoshoot with my test pilot helmet in 2022 #εpsilon

Apologies for the background noise, life on @Space_Station is loud! Without daily exercise on the ISS, we would lose significant muscle mass and bone density, since we don’t have the daily loading on our bodies that Earth’s gravitational environment provides. We have the ARED 🏋️‍♀️ (Advanced Resistive Exercise Device), an engineering marvel that can be configured into a large number of weight lifting exercises, a cycle ergometer 🚲 (think a stationary bike with no handlebars and no seat — not needed in space!), and a treadmill. 🏃‍♀️ I started exercise right away, and it was so cool. Complete muscle memory! Really feels like I never left. Here’s a peek into our daily exercise routine!

Day 017, orbit 0269 – Throwback to one of the first pictures of Crew‑12 in space… and we were of course looking back at Earth from this orbital vantage point. First‑ and second‑time fliers united in their love for our home planet and their awe at its beauty. We were at a loss for words to describe how stunning Earth is – and how this view made us feel. This picture was taken on Saturday 14 February, during the 34 hours SpaceX Dragon Freedom spent chasing the Station before docking. 📷 Credit: @esa /@NASA /@SpaceX

The beauty of the Earth remained just as fresh after 205 days of my previous mission, and now fills me with awe once again. One of my favorite daytime passes is over Africa, yes the entire continent (the one continent I have not yet set foot upon!). The variety of colors and textures is astounding from coast to coast. A few shots from my first 2 weeks back on the @Space_Station. #EarthArt

A view of a (cargo) Dragon from a (crew) Dragon. The @SpaceX cargo Dragon 33 vehicle departed from @Space_Station today. We’ve been busy packing it full of experiment samples, hardware, and items that need to be returned to Earth. Goodbye Dragon! Thanks for your hefty delivery to the ISS, you served us well!

Many astronauts experience changes to their vision and/or changes to the structure of the eye during long duration space missions, a condition that has become known as Spaceflight Associate Neuro-ocular Syndrome (SANS). It's important that we characterize and understand these changes so that we can ensure the health of astronauts while in space and after their return. Here we are obtaining images of the back of @Astro_ChrisW's eyes using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). I’m assisting as the operator.

Day 009, orbit 0139 : 🚀 Happy launch anniversary, Perseus! On 22 February 1999, ESA astronaut Jean-Pierre Haigneré lifts off from Baikonur (Kazakhstan) for a 189-day Franco-Russian mission aboard Mir. A warm thought for all the students out there… Back in February ’99, while I was studying for my baccalauréat (= French high-school graduation exam), I kept the Perseus mission patch in my pencil case. Just seeing it was enough to give me a boost whenever I needed one! Part of the scientific programme builds on the research instruments that were first flown to Mir during the Cassiopée and Pégase missions. - Physiolab – studying the cardiovascular system 🫀 - Cognilab – dedicated to neuroscience 🧠 and robotics 🦾 - Genesis – studying the development of pleurodeles 🦎 💧 in orbit - Alice II – studying the behaviour of fluids near their critical point - Comet – collecting comet dust for chemical analysis on the ground - Castor – aiming at characterising the dynamic behaviour of structures in orbit and measuring micro‑vibrations on Mir 🛰 - Spica – testing electronic components inside and outside of Mir - Exobiologie – exposing biological samples to space radiation ☢️ - WSG – studying fluctuations in spinal column length - Titus – dedicated to the solidification of metallic alloys in microgravity - BSMD – studying changes in bone 🦴 during spaceflight - Mirsupio – operational test of a multi‑purpose bag - Six educational experiments in botany (Fructile), fashion design (evaluation of a modular garment), thermal physics (Calomir), fluid mechanics (Oléomir), and physiology (Audiomir and Physiospace) As for me, I’ve spent this first week getting hands‑on with many of the Station’s research facilities – spanning these fields and many others. So much progress has been made, and so much more remains to be discovered! 📷 Credit: CNES/, 1999 (1, 5) CNES/HAIGNERE Jean-Pierre, 1999 (2, 3), CNES/ESA/COLLOT Philippe, 1999 (4) #εpsilon

It had been 6.5 years since I boarded a rocket to head to the @Space_Station. I wondered if the pure joy and awe that I experienced then upon first arriving in space could be equaled the second time. I’m feeling so wonderfully fortunate to report that it certainly can be! And watching those feelings reflected on my crewmates’ faces made it even better. Welcome to space and ISS, Crew-12! Go Expedition 74!

Day 007, orbit 0108 : One of my very first trainings on CEVIS, the International @Space_Station's bike – and in microgravity, you don’t need a handlebar or a saddle! I love cycling, and exercising on board feels surprisingly grounding. It also gives me a real boost of energy! CEVIS has been on the Station for more than 15 years and it is one of the three exercise devices we rely on to counter the effects of microgravity on our bodies. The other two are the treadmill and ARED, the equivalent of a weight-lifting machine. We train for about two hours every day following a personalised programme that keeps us fit and ready for every part of the mission. Remember the E4D next‑generation device I trained on in January at the European Astronaut Centre? This European technology demonstration is scheduled to arrive at the Station in April!
