@DefraGovUK Native deer on the Isle of Wight, both red and roe, despite being extremely rare here, are continuously under threat from ill-conceived public sector attempts to slaughter every last one of them to turn the whole county into an experimental deer free zone! Shame on them!

Persecution of Isle of Wight's deer continues! Despite deer being present here since the late 20th century, benefitting the island's woodland biodiversity, @iow_council & @NaturalEngland want to wipe all of our wild deer out to create an experimental deer free zone!

🌿 Community Spotlight 🌿 A big thank you to Lisa Dore for sharing these lovely moments from right on her doorstep. Lisa regularly enjoys evening walks just 10 minutes from home, where she’s been lucky enough to watch a small group of roe deer going about their daily lives.

Deer Diary - Late March Across woodland edges & farmland, activity is increasing. Roe bucks are beginning to establish territories, movement patterns are becoming clearer, and the impact of winter browsing is starting to show on fresh spring growth. bds.org.uk/2026/03/24/the…

Deer Trivia: Sika in England The first sika deer arrived in Britain in 1860. Free-living populations began to appear around 1896 after a release on Brownsea Island, Dorset, with some swimming to the mainland and establishing on the Purbeck Peninsula. #DeerTrivia
