@theycallmekg2 @_michaelstarnes You want to go band for band on DC history? And you think paved roads were built for streetcars but not autos? Autos are basically horses and buggies, electrified streetcars came first bc the combustion engine wasn't widespread yet. And guess what? People value independence.

@theycallmekg2 @_michaelstarnes You said, "the city was explicitly not built for the automobile." The (govt) core of DC was mostly built by 1800. The first streetcar in Wards 7 & 8 didn't happen until almost 1900. Streetcars are basically big busses. Autos became common in the '20s.

People say this while their mom was slugging with strangers daily in the 1980s and their grandma was taking the streetcar in the 1940s

@theycallmekg2 @MandyKnowsDC Certain areas EOTR should be more walkable. I agree with that. I'd ask you to ask yourself why the DC gov has prioritized certain areas over others. And ask why other areas have pushed back on the biking lanes and succeeded.

@MandyKnowsDC Mandy ever since I’ve followed you you’ve been my only ally EOTR. Anytime I talk to folks out here in Fort DuPont about making our side more walkable they come out with the “that’s for white people”, “we’re not New York”. You’re like the only one I’ve seen who values walkability

As a DC person from a walkable neighborhood….yes We should not live in a car dependent society Tweets like this is why I hate that “DMV” shit — we don’t share the same mentality….

@theycallmekg2 @_michaelstarnes That's a pretty ignorant and historically inaccurate statement. Many teens want to drive crosses socioeconomic levels. The common form of intracity transp when DC was built was horseback and horse and buggy. An auto is basically a horse and buggy.

@wilar @_michaelstarnes So seeing a car as a status symbol doesn’t take away from the fact that the city was explicitly not built for the automobile. And when they DID make improvements for the automobile it resulted in black neighborhoods being torn down for the freeways

@GavMcCracken I think that port has ~23 MMbbl storage cap, unless they brought part of the expansion online already. Fire can get a lot bigger if uncontrolled and a tank ruptures.

@wilar Well calculate how many barrels of oil you need to burn to get a 1GW thermal fire sustained for a few hours

@MandyKnowsDC Not being car dependent ≠ car free. A lot of the bike/walk pushers are radicals about their vision and want to push it on others which is unacceptable. As you say, we don't all share the same mentality. Which means there should be room and infrastructure for all.

@oucmecalling311 Gun violence itself wasn't the reason GA Ave. Caribbean Carnival ended. Nobody wanted to pay for all the costs associated with holding the event. (Which obviously would include security and off-duty cops.)

@tommiecollins People aren't saying the whole history of why the Caribbean Carnival on Georgia Ave. ended. Nobody wanted to *PAY* all of the fees and costs associated with holding the event. People didn't want to OPEN THEIR WALLETS AND POCKETBOOKS.

@johnarnold Oh Iran can wait it out just fine. So can that other country code ISR, because plenty of players will send them first priority hydrocarbon, food, and arms shipments. The worst off right now are the world's most impoverished.

We've reached the point in the war when neither side has a good card to play and both think they can wait the other out, which would seem like a manageable stalemate except that the oil market is losing circa 10 million barrels of supply each day.
