‘the entire universe should be left untouched’ is a position that can truly only boil down to an earnest hatred of humans, and a desire for us to go extinct. the position is shocking and immoral, and we all need to start being a lot more honest about this.

People are getting mad at this totally reasonable article. The moon is not owned by any government or corporation so who has the authority to extract resources from it? The moon should be treated as a nature preserve and left untouched.

I’m not sure I’d want to fund EU social programs through the dollar. As controversial as NATO is, and as much as it needs reform, it’s a powerful institution that’s relatively low cost to the US without unnecessarily overextending itself financially
Roman Helmet Guy@romanhelmetguy

Europe is a vassal of the American Empire. Sure we don’t tax it or levy troops from it. Sure it imports more from China than from us. Sure it created its own currency to bypass ours. Sure it won’t let our military use its airspace. But Europe is a vassal of the American Empire.

@ancerj maybe it's the inverse, that the US is "losing trust" in the global south because it's technology is advancing quickly enough that it can see through the status quo

As to the Americas, the "first run" from 1500s-1900s resulted in an Elite America neighboring an indigenized LATAM. Spanish lacked power/talent to overcome native numerical advantage. We're seeing a second run in 21st century where US finishes the job consolidating leadership.

We are entering an era where the gap in technological, military, and economic network power is so wide between countries that having literally 10x as many people means practically nothing. Hence the "global south" can pound sand if it doesn't want to cut a deal.

@yogsothotherite but you are projecting your desires ("I would love nothing more") onto this entity. the US does not want to give up Ramstein, because Ramstein is not a service the US provides to Germany, it's very much the opposite.

Trump and his administration bashing NATO because they won't send "ships" to do something someplace as vaguely demanded on truth social isn't about NATO. Even the most enthusiastic Trump apologists, to save this argument, have to revise it into a more general polemic about unspoken obligations they imagine accrue to beneficiaries of US military power or US imperially guaranteed freedom of navigation or the like. So, not remotely about NATO, and Trump himself reinforces this by scoffing at NATO military capabilities and insisting the US doesn't need NATO anyway. This whole discussion is happening for entirely different reasons, which I leave you to imagine.

@neilkli Trump benefits because he can continue the war, without oil prices spiking further, because people think that he'll stop the war quickly

claude cowork is making me think maybe we’ll look back and it’ll be obvious that humans were never meant to spend their lives working behind a screen. we’ll see it as inevitable that computers do everything for us on computers and the future of work is cooler than we can imagine

Every member in the U.S. Senate agrees we cannot allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. I’m baffled why so many are unwilling to support the only action to achieve that. Empty sloganeering vs. commitment to global security — which is it?

@FlagelloMagoo4u @FistedFoucault anyone remotely aligned with MAGA or whoever went out on a limb for Americans (not just AfD, but many on populist right in many countries) is going to be trashed as a traitor.
