@RevRichardColes @Sitting_Rabbit @RishiSunak @trussliz Absolutely agree, I entered into a scheme as I was fed up with admin involved with running a Ltd company. Also accountants constantly made small mistakes in returns. I wanted accurate reporting to HMRC, ironic the way this turned out.🙄 Was told all was within rules. #LoanCharge

"The law was always clear", about Loan Schemes, says Jim Harra. But in January 2019 he admitted HMRC's legal advisers could not support that claim. whatdotheyknow.com/request/720828… This is the authentication of the email below. MPs continue to IGNORE this, but it proves HMRC lies to us.

We know that nurses, social workers and other key workers signed up to pay arrangements after being told it was completely lawful. When I raised this with Jesse Norman during the finance bill I was told my remarks were 'dripping with condescension' 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=coVR-F…

HMRC take a position about the legal effect of something and base an entire (and flawed) policy around that position. But 2 years later, HMRC still cannot get legal advice to justify the position that they have taken. 2/3

Here Jim Harra candidly acknowledges “the principled objections” to the loan charge. 7/11

Here it is government who is being blamed for not backing down and it is for HMRC to try to defend the position. How? By repeating the line that HMRC have established that the schemes do not work. But even Jim realises that that line is “much disputed”. 8/11

Jim also discusses how HMRC should try to stop these schemes gaining traction in future. It recognises that users might have been “duped” but says HMRC are not likely to accept that “narrative” officially. 9/11

Two days later, there are some startling revelations. It is clear that the document as drafted by HMRC confirms the purpose of the LC. Jim wants to check whether Ruth is really content to make this admission. 6/11

Further thoughts on yesterday’s revelations: It should be noted that HMRC have not disclosed all information requested. They have taken the view that some information can be withheld “in the public interest”. 1/11
