A simple theory: people didn't move towards experiences over luxury status goods because they got more enlightened; the shift happened because of Instagram, which turned ephemeral experiences into durable status signals

Money people always had one advantage over pleasure people, numbers. You can show money. You can’t show experience. So they could always say you wasted your life. Then cameras and Instagram arrived. Now experience has reciepts. Photos became currency. You can show them and say here look I didn't waste anything. And the public ended up recognizing it.

Zoomers would pack lunches and doordash less too, if saving enough money to have a meaningful life was on a 2-5 year timeline, rather than a 15-30 year timeline. This is not an extravagance problem. This is an incentives problem.

Boomers and Gen X packed lunches. Not sure why this stuff enrages zoomers. Boomers lived frugally. Going out to lunch was a big deal. Most didn't have long lunch breaks, especially blue collar. You didn't DoorDash, dinners were made at home. I don't even DoorDash in 2026.

@Alexandrovna805 but ASL was developed for people who could never hear well enough to figure out talking but now i feel like you can diagnose babies with deafness earlier and there are interventions that help them develop the hearing part of their brain and maybe i guess help them hear also?
