@wideawake_media Name a single credible scientific institution that supports this position? You won't be able to, because there aren't any. The mugs who've fallen for the anti-science claptrap Peterson is parroting are cranks and idiots who will be disowned by their families and any friends.

It’s our fate. I’ve experienced this once before, as one of the very few economists warning of the Global Financial Crisis. Though many had an inkling, most went on with the belief that the bubble could grow forever. Most have already forgotten that lesson. Now they’re set up to experience something far more drastic than they can imagine. So the warnings from the vast majority of climate scientists has been as ineffective as the voices of the tiny minority of non mainstream economists like Wynne Godley and me. My current book will show that, as well as the usual suspects of the fossil fuel companies, mainstream economists are guilty of preventing all of our voices from being heard. The fossil fuel industry has successfully waged and won the war on public opinion about climate change. Neoclassical economists have been the arms dealers in providing arguments that trivialise the dangers of global warming.

Normal person: Genocide is bad. Israel supporter: Just say you hate Jews. Normal person: I oppose Zionism. Israel supporter: Jews. You mean Jews. Say Jews. Normal person: The Israel lobby is causing problems. Israel supporter: Jews Jews Jews Jews Jewy Jew Jews. Normal person: But I don't mean Jews. I'm expressing specific grievances against a specific state, its backers, and the political ideology it is premised upon. I judge people based on their individual actions, not on their religion. Israel supporter: JEWWWWWWS. Normal person: You realize you're doing the exact same thing neo-Nazis do, right? You're conflating all Jews with everything bad about Israel and the forces which give rise to its abuses. Israel supporter: It is antisemitic to conflate all Jews with the actions of Israel. Normal person: Then why do you keep conflating all Jews with the actions of Israel? Israel supporter: Because it is antisemitic not to conflate all Jews with the actions of Israel.

Incredible stuff from @LondonPortAuth. They patrol the foreshore to check people have a permit to look at the mud for old objects (& prosecute you if you don’t have one), but they don’t do any checks for water companies illegally putting sewage in the Thames, and have never brought a prosecution for illegal sewage dumping. We really need to replace them with guardians of the Thames who will actually look after the river.

I'm Jewish, British & 64 All my life, I wondered how the Holocaust could have happened. I understood that Hitler & other leaders were EVIL, but how did millions of ordinary people go along with it? NOW, seeing how so many in the West rationalise & defend the Gaza Genocide, I think I have my answer and it is profoundly disturbing

This is exactly what "trust the science" looks like. Scientists updated the worst-case scenario because real-world emissions are tracking below RCP8.5's 2010-era assumptions of runaway coal expansion, primarily because wind and solar got cheap and climate policy started bending the curve. The new CMIP7 HIGH scenario published in Geoscientific Model Development still projects roughly 3°C of warming by 2100, twice the Paris target and a temperature Earth has not seen in roughly 3 million years. The position being celebrated here amounts to: the climate policies worked well enough to retire the worst-case scenario, therefore we should kill the climate policies. That is hearing the smoke alarm shut off and concluding the fire department was a hoax.
Anika@anika_climate

🚨 BREAKING: UNITED NATION CLIMATE COMMITTEE JUST ADMITTED THEY WERE WRONG!!! Climate activists and politicians spent years treating the RCP8.5 climate scenario like an inevitable future, using it to justify fear-driven headlines and massive policy pushes 💰. Now many climate scientists admit it was a far-fetched worst-case scenario that became unrealistic as actual energy and emissions trends changed. ‘Trust the science.’ Science updates the model. ‘…not THAT science.’” x.com/EricLDaugh/sta…

Can't raise minimum wage because it will kill jobs. Can't raise taxes on the bourgeoisie class because it will kill jobs. Can't ditch oil because it will kill jobs. But when these companies replace 50% of their workforce with AI, it's "sorry, that's just the way it goes."

Farmers have figured out that the cheapest pesticide is a strip of flowers. When you plant wildflowers through a crop field, not just around the edge but in strips running through the middle, you get ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies, and parasitic wasps living in the field instead of visiting it. They eat the aphids, the caterpillars, and the mites for free, all summer long. In controlled trials, fields with tailored flower strips had leaf-beetle numbers 40 to 50% lower and crop damage cut by around 60%, enough to drop below the threshold where spraying was even considered worth it. The flowers attract a standing army to our fields. We spent decades engineering chemicals to kill the insects eating the crop, when the insects that eat those insects would have worked for the price of seed.

Hi @EnvAgency, I planned to go swimming in my river (River Roding) and checked the water quality and it’s full of sewage (often 5-7 ppm ammonia near outfalls) due to illegal outfalls putting over a billion litres of raw sewage into the river every year. The EA has not prosecuted a single one of these illegal spills or even asked Thames Water to fix them. What should I do now?
Environment Agency@EnvAgency

These designations reflect the importance communities place in their local environment and water quality. If you're planning open water swimming this summer, check water quality. Get informed and check conditions before you go.

This is utter bollox from Hannan. First he tells us not to anthropomorphise markets, then he tells us what they 'care' about, a metaphor that makes no sense unless we accept human agency - bondholders and market traders. Human? Well, anthropoids, anyway. Then he gets that bit completely wrong anyway - the bondholders and traders don't 'care' about 'balance' because it doesn't exist, at least not for very long, and currency-issuing states can't fail to pay back, so 'insolvency' is impossible. They care about interest rates rising as they buy and falling after they've bought, inflation staying under the yield, the number of years they should hang onto them to maximise yields, and the political stability required to hold all this in check. The ideal fix would for states to stop selling bonds and force institutions loaded with reserves to invest in productive activity. But over 300 years they've installed shills like Hannan in governments, central banks and mass media all over the West, either too thick to understand financial systems or corrupt enough to lie. And look at the numpties reposting him. Numptyworld staggers on imagining itself into debt slavery.
Daniel Hannan@DanielJHannan

This bizarre Leftist tendency to anthropomorphise the markets, to treat them as if they had preferences and prejudices. The bond markets don’t care whether you are Left or Right. They don’t even care whether your spending is high or low. All they care about is whether it is in balance. If you want to borrow money, creditors will assess whether they will get it back, and will ask a premium to lend to risky prospects. That premium means that Britain is now spending £110 billion a year on servicing past debt – more than on education, and twice as much as on defence.
