@ShepherdWales I might vote for Esther McVey again, I’m voting for the politician not the party but the decision will be a tough one

Kemi is definitely cutting through with people round me. We don’t really talk politics in my neighbourhood but a few random chats (not instigated by me) have been people saying they like what they are hearing from Kemi. It’s encouraging.

Often looking back at some of the media interviews after I’ve done them, I think there’s many things I should have/could have said, but I never work to a script or a prepared statement, it’s always a genuine response in that conversation. I’ve just seen this though and it’s right. It is a knee jerk by the government to a public outcry, the law should have been changed 14 years ago and sorted with Pakistan, ahmed should be serving 41 years not 14, we should build more prisons. Our politicians are neglectful and reactive rather than proactive and ahead of the game. Makes me so angry, because every day I see the life long consequences for the victims who carry the trauma for the rest of their lives…. And that’s heightened when they know their rapists are back in the community! The fear is very real. gbnews.com/politics/shabi…

Why on earth did Morocco supporters riot in London last night after losing to France? If this was England fans, the Met Police would have been more prepared & heavy-handed instead of running away. If multiculturalism was a success, this would not exist.

Scottish taxpayers, against the vast majority’s will, funded an attempt by the government to keep men in women’s prisons. Never have I been so tempted to move to Monaco and give all the money I’ve been paying in tax to groups fighting the rank misogyny of Swinney’s government.

Imminent family should be deported also. This will act as a huge deterrent. Zero tolerance, deterrent and accountability policies nailed… 🫡🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Shabir Ahmed was convicted of 30 counts of child rape. He was the leader of the Rochdale grooming gang that raped countless girls, some as young as 12. He groomed them with drugs and alcohol. They were systematically gang raped in rooms above high street shops. The rapists were almost all Pakistani Muslim men. The victims were almost all working class, white girls. Ahmed told the trial: "We are the supreme race." He said the white girls he targeted were "advanced in sex." This monster is now free, having served just 14 years in prison. Ahmed is not British. He's a Pakistani national. He must be deported. But Labour say he can't be. It is true that the Immigration Act 1971 does exempt any Commonwealth migrant who came here before 1973 from being deported. And I'm sure Pakistan don't want him back. But these obstacles are surmountable. Reform would repeal Section 7 of the Immigration Act 1971 so foreign rape gang perpetrators can be deported. And we would suspend ALL visas for Pakistanis until they agree to take back Shabir Ahmed. No visit, study, work, or family visas. None. Each year, we grant around 175,000 visas to Pakistani nationals - including to some very powerful ones keen on spending time in London. Their Government would agree to take back Ahmed within hours of us doing this. As with so many of the problems we face, deporting Shabir Ahmed is really about political will. Andy Burnham says all options are on the table, will he act?

When Andy Burnham saw the Defence Plan he should have asked how it would be paid for. Why doesn't he say where he is going to find the money? If he wants to succeed he needs to know and to answer questions. He looks as if he has no idea what to do.

Is Andy Burnham’s only growth policy to employ more staff for two Number 10 s? More taxpayer costs of rail fares to help his nationalised industry? Hardly efficient to shuttle between No 10 North and South, with the need for more security.

Flying to/from Manchester a couple of times a week will definitely be a good look for a government touting net zero. You seem to have thought this thru as much as Burnham.
OldishBird@oldishbird1

@afneil You know that Manchester and London have airports and the flight time is only an hour? Rishi Sunak used to fly to Teesside Airport regularly to spend time in North Yorkshire. And then there’s Zoom calls, which can be undertaken from anywhere.
