That’s not just trauma, that’s a lifelong tax on your body and your bank account that the rapist will never pay. We always talk about justice for the perpetrator but almost never about how victims keep paying the bill for decades in therapy, medical bills, lost time, and missed opportunities.

When I say being raped is expensive, I mean this: I was drugged and assaulted in a frat house at 18 shortly before I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth removed. I had awful PTSD; I couldn’t stomach the idea of being under anesthesia (or even OTC drugs like melatonin or NyQuil).
